Role Description
Lightspeed is looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Capital Advances team. This squad builds and runs the machinery behind Lightspeed Capital, from the moment a merchant applies for an advance, through underwriting, to the advance being issued and repaid. The work blends complex operational workflows with high stakes merchant experiences, and there is real room to turn a slow, manual process into a fast and largely automated one. In this role, you'll help define a vision through iterative design and delivery.
What youβll be doing:
-
Problem Solving:
-
Lead project work from a design perspective with autonomy and authority.
-
Facilitate design reviews and working sessions to help teams deliver the best possible solutions.
-
Comfortable working with ambiguity and turning nebulous concepts into specific ideas.
-
Support the vision of automating business operations with AI.
-
Deep domain knowledge and business acumen on lending product business operations.
-
Designing with AI:
-
Treat AI as part of how the work gets done, not a side experiment.
-
Synthesize complex, varied data into insights that sharpen our read of the problem space.
-
Use agentic workflows to spin up working prototypes fast.
-
Shape the prompts and instructions the team uses to develop experiences in production.
-
Embedding Systems Thinking:
-
Have UX expertise and deep understanding of design systems and UI design.
-
Design holistic systems, flows, and interfaces across internal tooling and merchant experiences.
-
Driving User-Centricity:
-
Draw insights from research and data to turn those insights into tangible solutions.
-
Learn the day-to-day of the people who underwrite and service advances.
-
Advocate for both underwriters and merchants when collaborating with cross-functional teams.
-
Collaboration:
-
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and familiar with the agile product development process.
-
Work closely with product and engineering partners in a tight cross-functional trio.
-
Design and craft artifacts to support multi-functional alignment sessions on product and design solutions.
Qualifications
-
At least 7 years of practical, in-house product, UX/UI design experience.
-
Excellent communication skills.
-
Experience designing complex, workflow-heavy products, internal tools, or operational systems.
-
Comfort working in a domain with rules you do not get to change (e.g., financial services, lending).
-
Demonstrable experience putting AI to work in your design practice.
-
A deep, holistic commitment to design quality.
