Role Description

The ideal candidate is a seasoned product leader with a deep understanding of IT, a strategic thinker, and a strong communicator. The Senior Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining user-friendly, accessible web interfaces that comply with federal accessibility standards, enhancing user experiences, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver inclusive and high-performing digital solutions.

  • Develop and maintain responsive, user-friendly web interfaces that comply with federal accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG guidelines.
  • Collaborate with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to translate user requirements into high-quality, accessible front-end code.
  • Conduct accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing techniques to identify and resolve barriers for users with disabilities.
  • Implement best practices for semantic HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript to ensure web applications are accessible, performant, and cross-browser compatible.
  • Provide expertise in accessibility, offering guidance and recommendations to ensure digital products meet or exceed compliance requirements.
  • Stay updated on evolving federal accessibility standards, technologies, and industry best practices, applying them to ongoing projects.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for front-end code, accessibility testing processes, and remediation strategies.
  • Conduct training and provide technical support to team members and stakeholders on accessibility practices.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to ensure rigorous testing of web applications for functionality, usability, and accessibility compliance.
  • Advocate for user-centric and inclusive design principles throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Support the integration of accessibility practices and reviews into the development life cycle.
  • Mentor and support other accessibility specialists and team members in best practices.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in accessibility and user-centered design principles.
  • Experience building and annotating prototypes in Figma and Sketch.
  • Demonstrated expertise in implementing and testing for compliance with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.
  • Familiarity with accessibility testing tools, such as Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, or screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.
  • Experience working with design systems, such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS), or creating reusable UI components.
  • Strong understanding of responsive and mobile-first design principles.
  • Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
  • Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with a focus on accessibility-related issues.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with federal digital services standards and guidelines is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
  • Remote with potential travel to Client site.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Capable of operating a computer and other office productivity machinery, and frequently communicate with co-workers, management, and customers.
