Role Description
The ideal candidate is a seasoned product leader with a deep understanding of IT, a strategic thinker, and a strong communicator. The Senior Accessibility Specialist will be responsible for developing and maintaining user-friendly, accessible web interfaces that comply with federal accessibility standards, enhancing user experiences, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver inclusive and high-performing digital solutions.
- Develop and maintain responsive, user-friendly web interfaces that comply with federal accessibility standards, including Section 508 and WCAG guidelines.
- Collaborate with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to translate user requirements into high-quality, accessible front-end code.
- Conduct accessibility audits using automated tools and manual testing techniques to identify and resolve barriers for users with disabilities.
- Implement best practices for semantic HTML, CSS, React, and JavaScript to ensure web applications are accessible, performant, and cross-browser compatible.
- Provide expertise in accessibility, offering guidance and recommendations to ensure digital products meet or exceed compliance requirements.
- Stay updated on evolving federal accessibility standards, technologies, and industry best practices, applying them to ongoing projects.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for front-end code, accessibility testing processes, and remediation strategies.
- Conduct training and provide technical support to team members and stakeholders on accessibility practices.
- Collaborate with QA teams to ensure rigorous testing of web applications for functionality, usability, and accessibility compliance.
- Advocate for user-centric and inclusive design principles throughout the development lifecycle.
- Support the integration of accessibility practices and reviews into the development life cycle.
- Mentor and support other accessibility specialists and team members in best practices.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in accessibility and user-centered design principles.
- Experience building and annotating prototypes in Figma and Sketch.
- Demonstrated expertise in implementing and testing for compliance with accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing tools, such as Axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, or screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver.
- Experience working with design systems, such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS), or creating reusable UI components.
- Strong understanding of responsive and mobile-first design principles.
- Knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills, with a focus on accessibility-related issues.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with federal digital services standards and guidelines is highly desirable.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
- Remote with potential travel to Client site.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
