Role Description

Our team is looking for an Environmental Technical Artist with a strong background in procedural generation—someone who can own the creation of entire worlds in an open-world RPG project while also laying the groundwork for future reusability across multiple titles.

In this role, you’ll be embedded with a small but agile game team and collaborate closely with the Art Director, Game Design Lead, and Engineers. You’ll take concepts from early ideation to in-game implementation, leveraging tools like Houdini, Unity, and emerging AI workflows (Wave Function Collapse, ComfyUI, etc.) to build reusable pipelines and systems for terrain generation, foliage/biome distribution, set dressing, and more.

If you enjoy combining hands-on technical artistry with forward-thinking pipeline design—and you’re excited about creating stylized, highly performant environments for mobile games—this is the role for you.

  • Own the full lifecycle of procedural environment creation—from prototype to shipping—in a stylized, open-world RPG.
  • Collaborate with game designers, artists, and engineers to develop and refine robust worldbuilding systems (e.g., terrain generation, foliage/biome creation, set-dressing, encounter placement).
  • Build and maintain procedural pipelines that can integrate seamlessly into Unity for both immediate project needs and potential future reuse.
  • Experiment with and integrate generative AI technologies (e.g., Wave Function Collapse, ComfyUI) where beneficial to accelerate and enhance worldbuilding and art pipelines.
  • Ensure environments meet stylistic goals set by the Art Director, proactively iterating and polishing until they align with the game’s creative vision.
  • Optimize assets and environments for performance, balancing fidelity with efficient rendering and resource usage.
  • Mentor or train other artists and junior Technical Artists to effectively use and extend the pipelines and tools you create.
  • Communicate proactively with a remote, distributed team—sharing progress, surfacing challenges, and collaborating on solutions.
  • Remain curious and forward-thinking about new workflows, AI-driven techniques, and industry trends—helping build a foundation for the next generation of games at Series.

Qualifications

  • 5–8 years of professional experience in a Technical Artist / Technical Director or similar role (3–5 years acceptable for exceptionally strong candidates).
  • Proven track record in procedural worldbuilding—especially terrain and biome/foliage generation—using tools like Houdini or comparable workflows.
  • Strong skills in Python scripting; familiarity with C# is a plus (Unity environment).
  • Knowledge of (or strong interest in) generative AI solutions and how they can accelerate game production.
  • Solid grasp of environment art fundamentals and the ability to match existing stylized art direction with minimal supervision.
  • Experience optimizing 3D content for real-time engines, ideally for mobile platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating with cross-functional teams (artists, designers, engineers).
  • Self-driven, solutions-oriented mindset—willing to take ownership and see a project through from concept to deployment.

Requirements

  • Exposure to ComfyUI or other AI-driven toolkits for environment/asset creation.
  • Background with shader development, VFX, or node-based pipelines (though not the primary focus).
  • Experience shipping at least one mobile or live-service title.
  • An eye for future-proofing pipelines—designing systems that can be adapted for multiple projects.
  • Demonstrable example(s) via website/reel.
