[Hiring] Accessibility Specialist @Coforma

YDay - Coforma is hiring a remote Accessibility Specialist. 💸 Salary: $135,884 to $150,235 annualized salary + benefits 📍Location: USA

Role Description

We are looking for an empathetic, detail-oriented, and proactive Accessibility Specialist to provide dedicated accessibility strategy, auditing, and remediation coverage across our client deliverables.

Note: This is a seasonal, fixed-term coverage role expected to run from December 2026 through May 2027 (specific employment dates are subject to change based on project needs).

Accessibility Specialists wear many hats—serving as auditor, educator, coach, technical advisor, and advocate for inclusive design. In this role, you will act as a key subject matter expert across cross-functional teams, ensuring our digital products, interfaces, and document deliverables not only meet but exceed Section 508, WCAG 2.2 AA, and ADA standards.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in assistive technologies, HTML5, and web standards, along with a passion for removing barriers and delivering high-quality digital experiences for Veterans and the public. Prior experience in federal government contracting or consulting is highly valued.

A typical day for a Coforma Accessibility Specialist might include:

  • Performing accessibility audits and design reviews.
  • Reviewing Figma mockups for inclusive design practices.
  • Advising developers on proper coding and VA Design System fixes.
  • Auditing and remediating non-web document formats (such as PDFs, Google Docs, or Microsoft Office files).
  • Supporting Veteran-Facing Services (VFS) teams in preparing for official VA 508 office audits.
  • Providing assistive tech support for user research sessions to capture real-world accessibility observations.
  • Mentoring peers and celebrating successful deliveries of accessible, barrier-free digital tools.

This role requires a persistent, positive, and growth-oriented mindset, along with a high degree of initiative and autonomy. You will thrive here if you are curious, highly collaborative, and dedicated to embedding accessibility throughout the entire product lifecycle—from initial strategy to measuring success.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • 3 or more years directly supporting accessibility standards.
  • Strong expertise with Section 508 laws, WCAG 2.2 AA, and ADA.
  • Fluency with assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, ZoomText, Dragon Naturally Speaking).
  • Knowledge of HTML5, Web Standards, and compatibility issues affecting assistive technology use.
  • Familiarity with document remediation and testing tools such as Adobe Acrobat, CommonLook PDF, and PAC 2026.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Conduct accessibility audits and design reviews of single-page applications, components, and content across VA.gov.
  • Advise VFS teams on accessible coding practices and design system fixes.
  • Audit and remediate non-web document formats, ensuring they meet established accessibility standards.
  • Work directly with internal and external technical stakeholders, vendors, and partners.

Benefits

  • $135,884 to $150,235 Annualized Salary + Benefits.
  • Placement within this range will be based on the competency level of the candidate.
  • Non-negotiable salary tiers based on experience and qualifications.
