[Hiring] Lead Data Engineer @Trolley

Role Description

Trolley is looking for a Lead Data Engineer to own the data platform, lead the data team, and leverage data with AI. This is a player-coach role focused on:

• Leading the data team and managing a data engineer.
• Setting standards for code review, testing, documentation, and on-call for data.
• Planning the team's work with Engineering, Finance, and Product.
• Owning Trolley's data platform, including ingestion, modeling, quality, and cost.
• Building and running pipelines from various sources.
• Maintaining accurate and fast internal reporting.
• Running data behind month-end close and vendor cost reconciliation.
• Building customer-facing data products and improving data features.
• Building data foundations for AI tools and using AI in engineering work.
• Applying data management and privacy policies in all builds.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in data engineering with ownership of a production data platform.
• Experience leading other engineers and managing a small team.
• Deep experience with Databricks or a similar lakehouse, SQL, and Python.
• Experience building reliable pipelines from operational databases and SaaS systems.
• Experience supporting finance or accounting processes with data.
• Hands-on use of AI tools in engineering work.
• Comfortable as the most senior data person in the company.

Requirements

• Formal people management experience and interest in team growth.
• Experience in fintech, payments, or regulated environments.
• Experience with customer-facing data products and embedded analytics.
• Experience building context layers or data pipelines for AI agents.
• Knowledge of data governance and privacy practices.
