Role Description

The communications specialist is responsible for developing and distributing a broad range of internal and external communications materials. Reporting to the Manager of Internal Communications, the communications specialist partners with departmental leaders on communications campaigns, programs and project plans. In partnership with the marketing and communications team, the communications specialist develops and implements integrated, multichannel plans for employees, health professionals, patients and families. This position serves as a primary writer in the department to ensure that copy is of the highest professional quality and consistent with brand and corporate identity standards. The position will be expected to participate in all areas of communication including internal, external and social media.

Qualifications

• BA degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related area required

Requirements

• Three to four years of strong writing/editing experience in a corporate or agency setting; planning and project management experience
• Health and/or healthcare experience preferred
• Experience with the creation and curation of digital content across a wide spectrum of digital channels a plus (Microsoft SharePoint, email, internal channels)
• Experience planning, writing and executing email strategy

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Excellent writing, editing and communications skills. Strong knowledge of AP Style
• Comfort interacting and working with departmental and functional leaders
• Demonstrated ability to write and execute emails across departmental areas
• Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationships and establish strong credibility with partners
• Working knowledge of media relations, social media and marketing techniques
• Proficiency to find great stories, hone them, and tell them in a compelling way
• Comfort utilizing technology for communications, such as webcasts, video, email, Intranet, SharePoint, etc.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite; experience working with SharePoint, email marketing software, Adobe Creative Suite a plus
• Highly organized and detail-oriented
• Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines in a fast-paced environment
• Strong interpersonal skills
• A quick study and a desire to become a subject matter expert on many topics
• Self-starter with a great work ethic, ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to travel between locations as needed for meetings and events
