[Hiring] Technical Implementation Consultant @HelioCampus

Role Description

We are seeking a Technical Implementation Consultant to lead the discovery, configuration, and validation work that brings our analytics platforms to life. You will be responsible for understanding how each institution defines and operates its business and translating that understanding into the data model configuration decisions that determine whether the resulting numbers hold up. This role works across the full range of institutional analytics we implement, including:

• Student lifecycle: admissions, enrollment, retention, completions, and student financials
• Academic cost analytics: program costs and earnings

The successful candidate will combine higher education subject matter expertise with comfort in data and the ability to manage multiple client implementations simultaneously.

What You Will Do

• Discovery and Requirements:
  • Lead discovery sessions with client functional offices, including institutional research, registrar, admissions, student accounts, financial aid, budget, and academic affairs.
  • Draw out how the institution operates, including exceptions and local practices.
• Configuration:
  • Own and document configuration decisions that reflect the client's data model.
  • Resolve definitional questions (e.g., definitions of degree-seeking students).
  • Work with clients to define configurations for data transformation and communicate with data engineers.
  • Partner with stakeholders to align methodology with budgeting and reporting.
• Validation and Quality:
  • Deploy and configure Tableau workbooks or Power BI reports.
  • Run validation cycles with client stakeholders and document feedback.
  • Investigate discrepancies and provide support post-implementation.
• Documentation:
  • Document client-specific business rules and configuration decisions.
  • Support implementation handoff documentation.
  • Provide feedback and documentation for new products post-launch.
• Data Advisory:
  • Escalate common implementation hurdles to the product team.
  • Provide advice and feedback on data definitions and use cases.
• Training:
  • Facilitate power user training sessions with the Data Analyst team.
• Travel:
  • Travel to client/partner institution sites as needed (no more than 10%).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
• 3+ years working with higher education institutional data.
• Deep working knowledge of at least one functional area of higher education (e.g., enrollment management, student financials).
• Familiarity with data structures behind at least one major Student Information System.
• Working knowledge of standardized institutional reporting such as IPEDS.
• Foundational knowledge of SQL.
• Understanding of how institutional data moves between systems.
• Comfort working in Tableau, Power BI, or a comparable data visualization tool.
• Strong Excel skills for data manipulation and reconciliation.
• Experience leading working sessions with stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple client projects.
• Strong problem-solving skills.

Requirements

• Deeper SQL knowledge, including complex joins and window functions.
• Experience with cloud data warehousing (Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery).
• Knowledge of ETL processes or data pipeline configuration.
• Experience with instructional cost studies or program viability analysis.
• Experience conducting quality assurance or user acceptance testing.
• Familiarity with project management tools such as Confluence, Jira, Smartsheet, Trello.
• Experience with similar SaaS products serving higher education.

Location

This specific role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to an office or client site. US East Coast working hours are required, and a strong preference is given to candidates who can easily travel to our Chapel Hill, NC or Bethesda, MD offices for occasional in-person work.
