Role Description

This position primarily involves mentoring students in a virtual environment, delivering transformational learning experiences through online live classes. The High School Spanish Mentor will be responsible for:

  • Using the 6 Mentor Practices to Optimize Student Learning:
    • Inspire, challenge, and engage students.
    • Cultivate a hunger for knowledge and encourage curiosity among students.
    • Encourage students to learn and continually improve.
    • Teach students “how to learn” not “what to learn.”
    • Apply the Socratic Method to classroom discussions.
    • Help set goals for students and work with the class to help them attain these goals.
    • Become a master in your field, seeking deeper understanding, knowledge, or skills.
    • Find creative ways to communicate your subject area to students and inspire them to learn more.
  • Grading, Intervention, and Communication:
    • Monitor assignment configuration and accuracy in Canvas.
    • Effectively communicate expectations and assignments.
    • Grade student work and provide timely, detailed feedback on assignments.
    • Respond to correspondence from students, parents, or colleagues within one business day.
    • Keep track of attendance and ensure student participation in class.
    • Perform weekly intervention for students who are behind and monitor their progress.
    • Hold a weekly office hour.
    • Set up and lead Parent/Mentor Conferences (PMCs) with all students.
    • Attend IEP meetings as requested.
  • Implement TWC with Integrity in Online Format:
    • Inspire students with engaging presentations.
    • Design classes around the syllabi objectives and key questions.
    • Connect with students individually, demonstrating personal caring and warmth.
    • Contribute ideas to improve WL’s curriculum.
    • Adapt WL mentoring practices to your role and delivery format.
  • Professional Development and Team Participation:
    • Embrace your role as a mentor and master the Six Mentor Practices.
    • Participate in WL Professional Development activities.
    • Attend required L10 meetings and participate fully in the agenda.
    • Demonstrate company values with students, parents, and team members.
  • Demonstrate Professionalism during all Classes:
    • Set rules and expectations for classes.
    • Supervise students under your care at all times.
    • Know and abide by all WL and applicable LAU policies.
    • Stay current on all required trainings.
    • Refer disciplinary issues to proper team members when necessary.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS with demonstrated knowledge of and interest in the subject area.
  • Current Teaching License with Spanish Education Endorsement.
  • Current Utah or Colorado resident.
  • Ability to start working on July 15th, 2025.
  • Ability to take and pass a Criminal Background Check.
  • Highly organized yet flexible as the program evolves.
  • Must be a team player and follow all relevant policies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Quick learner with technology and proficient in using email and managing files.
  • Alignment with the educational philosophy and methods described on the Williamsburg website.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior history of working with middle- and high school-aged students.
  • Experience teaching in your subject area.
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint, cloud-based apps, and web-based conference platforms.
  • Prior use of Student Information Systems and Learning Management Systems.
