Role Description
The Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) at Walden University seeks students currently enrolled in a Walden doctoral program for the position of Graduate Assistant – Qualitative Concepts Tutor. This role involves providing instructional support using qualitative research software for students in graduate-level courses across Walden.
- Tutor students in topics related to NVivo software and core methodological elements, such as interviewing, observations, and coding qualitative data.
- Deliver qualitative concepts tutoring through individual appointments, small group sessions, or e-tutoring (Q&A feedback via email).
- Report to the Manager of GA Strategy and Support in OASIS.
- Commit approximately 40 hours per month (10 hours per week) to this role, including evenings and weekends.
- Attend and complete program training and specialized ongoing tutor and content training throughout position tenure.
Qualifications
- Must be a current Walden student enrolled in a doctoral program at Walden University.
- Demonstrated expertise and completed graduate-level qualitative research and advanced qualitative research coursework required.
- 3+ years demonstrated work experience utilizing NVivo on a regular basis preferred.
- Superb knowledge of graduate-level qualitative research principles, core methodological elements, and using NVivo software.
- Experience teaching or learning in online learning management systems preferred.
- Experience with additional analytical software preferred.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience with NVivo and familiarity with Office 365 suite of programs.
- Superb analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong writing skills for corresponding with students via the Center’s e-mail role accounts in clear, grammatically correct replies written in a professional tone.
- Ability to provide positive, constructive feedback to adult students in conversation and writing.
- Ability to adapt to all levels of learners, and approach students with different learning strategies to help them develop their qualitative research and NVivo software skills.
- Demonstrate that she/he/they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
