Role Description

This role involves teaching primarily Blended Academic Year in Residence (BAYR) courses using the Blackboard platform.

  • Engage with students in asynchronous Discussion Boards
  • Grade assignments and answer student questions
  • Deliver 2 synchronous sessions during the quarter
  • Complete postings in a timely manner according to the Faculty Handbook
  • Teach BAYR courses requiring asynchronous, synchronous, and in-person instruction
  • Provide in-person instruction for approximately 4-5 hours per day during a 7-day in-person component in Minneapolis, MN

Training

  • Receive specific training in teaching techniques and use of the electronic learning platform
  • Learn about policies, procedures, and degree programs of the School or College
  • Socialization into the Walden University culture
  • Assessment of academic integrity of student work
  • Research supervision of theses and dissertations
  • Support from Core Faculty during the first taught course

Availability

  • Be reasonably accessible to students outside the course
  • Provide substantive feedback on assignments and postings
  • Publish availability through course syllabi and other documents
  • Suggest regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours

Residencies

  • Opportunity to teach at university doctoral Residencies domestically or internationally
  • Teach intensives and colloquia, and facilitate discussions
  • Available for an additional stipend

Mentoring

  • Participate in doctoral dissertation committees
  • Available for an additional stipend per student mentored

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Doctoral level Psychologist license
  • Earned doctorate in the field of study or closely related field
  • Significant record of intellectual and professional contributions to the field of Psychology
  • Three to five years of teaching experience at the degree level preferred
  • Two years or more of online or technology-enabled instruction experience preferred
  • Two years or more of student research mentoring preferred
  • Experience administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological assessments preferred
  • Experience with a variety of psychotherapeutic interventions preferred
  • Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of adult students
  • Excellent leadership, communication, team, and human relations skills
  • Experience with distance learning preferred
  • Willingness to travel for face-to-face instruction preferred

Licensure and/or Certification

  • Must maintain a Doctoral level Psychologist license and any appropriate certifications
  • Expected to maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations

Technology Requirements

  • Must have an adequate computer to handle an electronic learning platform
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with online meeting software such as Teams and Zoom
  • Reliable Internet access and alternate access in case of primary access failure

Additional Information

  • Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester
  • Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter
  • Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law
  • Other opportunities include dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions and research reviewing
