[Hiring] Disability Case Manager @Desjardins

Role Description

This is a fully remote position based in Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Atlantic region. Due to operational requirements, employees in this role must reside within one of these provinces.

At Desjardins Insurance, our mission is to support our members, clients and partners in the event of a disability claim by providing the support and assistance they need to ensure a lasting return to health, while managing the cost of claims. As a Disability Case Manager, you play a key role by proactively and responsibly managing claims while also contributing to people’s well-being and financial security. Your responsibilities include:

• Develop strategies and build strong relationships to establish an intervention plan to facilitate the insured's recovery and return to work in a timely and sustainable manner.
• Communicate by phone and mail with various parties to develop a comprehensive understanding of the elements and context related to the absence and communicate decisions to the insured and the policyholder.
• Approve and adjudicate claims, process waivers of premium, establish the amount of the benefit, determine the period payable and proceed with the payment and ensure the necessary follow-ups are completed.
• Prepare documents needed by the organization’s rehabilitation coordinator for claimant interviews. Review claims with medical consultants and the legal department as required.
• Process disability claims in accordance with the terms of the group insurance contract.

Qualifications

• College diploma in a related field.
• A minimum of three years of relevant experience as a disability claims specialist (short- and/or long-term disability management, return-to-work, claims adjudication), healthcare such as rehabilitation, nursing, kinesiology, physiotherapy, psychology, occupational health, etc.
• Advanced proficiency in English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English speaking partners, members and/or clients.
• Action oriented, Ambiguity, Complexity, Customer Focus, Decision quality, Differences, Interpersonal Savvy, Nimble learning.
