Role Description

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking an experienced fundraising professional who will supervise all aspects of a peer-to-peer event-based portfolio, including oversight of event revenue and donor & fundraiser development and engagement. This self-starting individual will be responsible for driving fundraising success for the Step Out Walk and the State of Diabetes in the DMV Market.

Primary duties of the Director of Development will include:

• Development and management of existing and new teams, individual fundraisers, corporate partners, event leadership, and volunteers.
• Identifying new opportunities to grow the local peer-to-peer portfolio across all fundraising channels to increase revenue.
• Managing and stewarding a portfolio of corporate & friends and family teams, individual participants, volunteers, and corporate leaders.
• Accountability for significant revenue targets and influencing the strategic implementation of local campaign initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Fundraising and Relationship Building
  • Formulate, implement, and lead strategies and tactics for fundraising and development activities.
  • Manage and review daily campaign data through reports, dashboards, and revenue analysis.
  • Regularly monitor the performance of a fundraising portfolio.
  • Develop and execute plans for retention, upgrade, and acquisition of applicable areas of business focus.
  • Data mining to identify and acquire participants, team captains, corporate partners, sponsors, event leadership, and community leaders.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of donor interactions.
  • Track and report on progress, tactics, trends, financials, and other KPIs.
  • Provide frequent financial input including budget management, forecasts, and revenue reports.
  • Collaborate with Field staff and the larger organization to ensure campaign growth and success.
• Participant Experience & Events
  • Support peer-to-peer events ensuring an extraordinary participant and donor experience.
  • Support other fundraising events, activities, and programs as assigned.
• Volunteer Engagement
  • Build and implement strategy to develop a pipeline of leaders.
  • Provide leadership in building and implementing annual plans around volunteer leadership.
  • Support the Executive Director in identifying and executing duties of the Event Chair.
  • Manage the Executive Leadership Team and Executive Challenge champions.
  • Identify, build, and steward relationships with community, philanthropic, and corporate leaders.
• Mission Integration
  • Identify and implement marketing opportunities to increase ADA’s presence and awareness.
  • Support and maintain the vision, mission, priorities, and guiding principles of ADA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 5+ years of professional experience in peer-to-peer fundraising, events, leadership, volunteerism, and corporate partnerships.
• Excellent public speaking skills with the ability to present ADA’s mission.
• Demonstrated experience recruiting individuals to support an organization.
• Demonstrated ability to mobilize and motivate individuals to achieve goals.
• Ability to organize time effectively and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with various constituencies.
• Excellent verbal and written skills, creativity, attention to detail, and strong editing skills.
• Knowledge of software including Microsoft, DonorDrive (or other P2P platforms), and Salesforce CRM.
• Ability to travel as needed for meetings and events.
• Must live within 50 miles of the Washington DC area.

Requirements

• Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends as needed to support events.
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to fifteen pounds.
• Reliable transportation to travel.
