Role Description

The Development Specialist plays a vital role in NBDF’s fundraising initiatives and donor engagement efforts. Reporting to the Annual Giving Manager, this position contributes to annual and episodic fundraising campaigns, including major fundraising events. The Development Specialist will cultivate relationships with donors at all levels, with a particular focus on annual, episodic, and entry-level donors, and collaborate with the Advancement Team to enhance donor engagement and drive revenue growth. Key Responsibilities

  • Fundraising Strategy & Campaign Execution
    • Collaborate with the Annual Giving Manager to develop, design, and implement direct mail solicitations to increase donor and prospect engagement.
    • Manage specific initiatives, campaigns, and events targeting key audiences.
    • Oversee the execution of peer-to-peer (P2P) and endurance fundraising programs, cultivating and stewarding fundraisers.
  • Donor Engagement & Stewardship
    • Manage, steward, and cultivate a portfolio of entry-level donors.
    • Serve as the point of contact for participant and donor inquiries, providing donor relations support across all programs.
    • Conduct individual, corporate, and foundation donor research to enhance donor cultivation strategies.
    • Analyze fundraising performance metrics to inform strategy and improve donor retention.
  • Event Planning & Support
    • Plan the logistics for a variety of philanthropic events, including board and donor-led events, donor engagement gatherings, and other fundraising-related initiatives.
    • Support fundraising event logistics, ensuring seamless execution and donor engagement.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a nonprofit organization or related field.
  • Experience with annual campaigns, direct mail, peer-to-peer fundraising, endurance events, Giving Tuesday, and other episodic campaigns.
  • Experience with Donor Drive or a similar fundraising platform (e.g., Classy, Boomerang, DonorPerfect).
  • Proficiency in Raiser's Edge or a similar CRM system is required (e.g. Salesforce).
  • Strong understanding of donor stewardship and cultivation best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • High attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of or experience with health-based or rare disease fundraising is a plus.
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g. Canva) is preferred but not required.

Compensation

For this position, NBDF has set a starting base salary range of $60,000-$67,000 and it is non-negotiable due to our company's commitment to maintaining internal pay equity. This approach ensures that we maintain a fair and consistent compensation structure across the organization.
