Role Description

An opportunity to use your skills in mental health and support people in their time of need while working with one of Australia’s most trusted organisations. The 13 11 14 Telephone Crisis Support service offers support to people in crisis and emotional distress.

• Seeking applications for several current Lifeline voice Crisis Supporters (Intern or Accredited) on a casual basis.
• Positions available ONLY for our night time service, working remotely.
• Shifts are 4+ hours, completed between the hours of 6pm to 6am.
• Play an integral role in keeping callers safe by assessing suicide risk and situations of distress.
• Intervene and assist accordingly as the first point of contact for people seeking help and immediate relief from emotional distress.

Qualifications

• Current Lifeline Voice Crisis Supporter (Intern or Accredited).
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in counselling, psychology, social work, mental health, community services, nursing, or a related discipline.
• Previous work experience in supporting people through a personal crisis (e.g., mental health nursing, counselling, social work, or psychology background).

Requirements

• Sound computing and technology literacy skills, including the ability to confidently use multiple digital systems.
• Ability to accurately record call data during calls and adapt to new technologies and platforms.
• Ability to work from a private, quiet, and confidential workspace.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
• Demonstrated crisis intervention skills.
• Ability to express empathy and respect for others.
• Flexibility and openness to change, diversity, and continuous improvement.
• Strong sense of self-awareness and willingness to personally develop through both individual and group supervision.
• Capacity to understand and help others while maintaining clear boundaries of responsibility.
