Role Description

Walden University seeks a dynamic, innovative faculty member for this contributing (part-time) position in the Ph.D. in Social Work and the DSW programs. Key responsibilities of this position include:

Teaching courses and mentoring student research.

What to Expect as a Walden Faculty Member:

Educate Walden University students using online technology and resources.
Impart knowledge, information, feedback, and critique through thoughtful, well-written, and timely communications.
Maintain a respectful environment for students, faculty members, and the discipline.

Course Teaching/Availability:

Assigned courses are taught using the Learning Management System (LMS).
Interact with students within the LMS.
Discussion Boards are open 24/7.
Expected classroom presence a minimum of 4 days per week.
Responses to student questions must be posted within 48 hours.
Regular and predictable availability is suggested, such as online office hours or regular online chats.

Research Mentorship:

Work one-on-one with students to help meet research requirements.
Provide timely feedback, approval, assessment, and evaluation of student work.

Residencies:

May be invited to attend Residencies domestically or internationally.
Teach face-to-face intensives and colloquia.
Facilitate school and university-wide discussions.
Participation for contributing (part-time) faculty is optional.

Tools/Technical Skills:

Must perform essential duties satisfactorily.
Evaluated based on performance of each essential function.
Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Licensing/Certification:

Must be appropriately credentialed with an earned degree from an accredited institution.
May be expected to be licensed or license-eligible for specific programs.
Maintain licenses and certifications to continue teaching.
Expected to maintain currency with research by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations.
May publish and acknowledge Walden University if participating in research.

Travel:

Opportunity to travel to university events and residencies.
Expected to fully participate in events.
Core faculty will have required travel throughout the year.

Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. or DSW from an accredited university in social work.
MSW from a Council for Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program.
Experience sitting on/chairing dissertation committees.
Significant record of academic (i.e., publications, presentations) and/or professional contributions to the field.
A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the degree level of the program and one year of online teaching experience is preferred.
A minimum of 3 years post-MSW social work practice experience.
Commitment to supporting student success in a diverse population of adult learners.
Commitment to the social change mission of Walden University.
Experience with Learning Management Systems and leveraging technology in learning (required).
Proficiency with SPSS for quantitative faculty and/or NVivo for qualitative faculty, preferred.
Expected to perform other duties and responsibilities that management may deem necessary from time to time.

Technology Requirements

Personal computer with virus protection and Internet access is required.
Walden University provides a Walden e-mail account and access to the learning platform.
Access to password-protected faculty sections of the website, university and college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.

Additional Information

Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester, depending on type of course taught and length of course.
Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on type of course taught and length of course.
Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law.
