The Opportunity

At AimHi Earth, our purpose is to ignite the desire to learn and act on what matters.

We are all focused on solving the following problem:

Thereā€™s no shortage of information ā€“ only of curiosity, focus and activation. This is a key part of why society isnā€™t taking adequate, informed action on the climate and nature emergency.

This is why AimHi Earth exists to transform understanding of the climate emergency, to activate hundreds of millions of nature-first thinkers, and to accelerate the evolution of our economy and society to one of sustainability and regeneration.

We are working to ensure that people and organisations everywhere understand the full picture of the climate and nature emergency, and are motivated to drive positive change, so that we can build a healthier, cooler, more verdant future together.

At AimHi Earth, weā€¦

  • are a small, fast-moving and highly-motivated team.
  • recently raised Ā£1mn ($1.25mn) in seed funding from high-quality UK- and Denmark-based funders to take us to the next level of scale.
  • are founded by three nature-first thinkers (majority women) dedicated to building a better future.
  • are supported by world-class organisations ā€“ Cambridge Zero (University of Cambridge), Nature4Climate, UNEP, Eden Project.
  • are supported by world-class advisors ā€“ Sir Jonathan Porritt, Dr CĆ©cile Girardin, Sir Tim Smit, Erica Neve FRSA, Amali De Alwis MBE, Jon Drori CBE, Lord Jim Knight, Sabra Noordeen.
  • have already trained tens of thousands of people with our leading interactive live-learning experience (>95% audience retention, >50% per-minute engagement).
  • are at the forefront of setting a new standard for rapid mindset change at scale (>90% measurable behaviour change).
  • have changed the kits of football players, the funding strategy of charities, the speeches of Olympic medallists, the output of broadcasters and the direction of companies.
  • are now winning work with major clients; from zeitgeist-defining companies to Fortune 500 giants (including Unilever, Sky, CapGemini, Universal, PepsiCo, BBC, NHS).

Weā€™re now seeking a creative, collaborative, diligent, and imaginative Climate & Nature Researcher & Writer to complement our team and ā€“ as we scale our reach from tens of thousands to millions ā€“ to help us to ensure that our sessions stay high-integrity, hard-hitting, up-to-date and as engaging and moving as the scale of the global crisis demands.

Requirements

Role Summary

At AimHi Earth, our theory of change is simple: reach as many people in positions of power and influence as possible with world-class storytelling ā€“ clear and inspiring communication that drives measurable (and we do measure them) mindset and behavioural shifts.

As our Climate & Nature Researcher & Writer, you will play a pivotal role in crafting and nurturing the narrative core of our work ā€“ researching, creating and finessing the material that the rest of the team is working so hard to get to people. Youā€™ll work directly with our co-founder, Matthew Shribman, our content lead Abi Perrin, and the rest of our product team to make, edit and improve transformative materials for audiences across the globe.

Your work will involveĀ  constantly threading a needle through a narrow gap between (i) highly time-constrained, business- or institution-centric audiences, (ii) organisation directors concerned about what material they expose their employees to, and (iii) compelling and informative material that empowers and energises, to drive personal, professional and systemic change.

In essence, this is your chance to motivate and move people at the levers of power.

Itā€™s not an easy task!

What youā€™ll be doingĀ

Your role will involve:

  • Creating new climate and nature communications material for business, government and institutional audiences.
  • Editing and finessing existing material, ready for delivery by our presenters.
  • Watching demos of new material, and helping to guide it into a better shape.
  • Researching the organisations we work with; in particular on their climate, sustainability and nature work and weaving client-specific references, links and language (always with care and integrity ā€“ considering the science and our stringent greenwashing policy) into our existing materials.
  • Helping to update our existing materials to ensure that they remain relevant and current.

What youā€™ll need

  • A science degree (2:1 or above): Ideally in a biological science (biology, ecology, zoology etc.), though weā€™ll accept other sciences (chemistry, earth sciences, physics etc.), particularly if youā€™ve a professional background related to complex natural systems.
  • Extensive experience engaging with diverse perspectives: In particular, weā€™re looking for someone who knows how to (and enjoys) speak(ing) to a conservative-leaning audience, though weā€™re keen on a writer who can demonstrate experience speaking to a wide range of backgrounds.
  • An ability to craft inspiring content that leaves a lasting emotional impact: We are seeking a writer who understands that people remember how they feel most, and details second, and that, consequently, ā€œinformationā€ can only only have a meaningful impact in a short, packed training session when itā€™s wrapped in a powerfully emotional envelope.
  • A collaborative mindset: You will need to be able toco-create and incorporate constructive feedback effectively. We have a culture of direct feedback, to help one another to learn as quickly as possible.
  • Diligence and a keen eye for detail.
  • Previous experience working in communications in the climate, sustainability and nature space.

Furthermore, qualities that are essential for all of our roles at AimHi Earth include:

  • Initiative and self-starter energy, to take ownership of the role and make it your own.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team - rapidly understanding assignments and collaborating with others to get things done, learn, and improve.
  • Discipline and self-motivation as a remote worker, with strong time-management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, approaching challenges critically, asking insightful questions, and finding innovative solutions independently and collaboratively.

Nice to havesĀ

  • 3+ years working in the climate, sustainability and nature space.
  • Familiarity with the world of business sustainability (eg. ESG, SBTi, TCFD and other confusing acronyms!).
  • Experience with and/or interest in digital education, storytelling, psychology and systems-thinking.
  • Experience writing promotional and marketing materials and posts.

Benefits

How we work

We take great pride in our people and culture. We trust and admire one another, and we all share the twin desires of wanting to build a great organisation and combat the climate and nature emergency.

We comprise 15+ people working remotely around the world, and we talk openly and honestly, regularly. We aim to enable all of our team members to do their best work, be themselves, and ultimately feel energised every Monday. Although this is a contractor role and does not include access to perks like annual leave or wellbeing budgets, we are still proud to offer:

  • Flexible hours.
  • Remote working with a vibrant, international team, and an open, respectful, values-based culture.
  • Invitations to events and learning opportunities.
  • The chance to contribute to a fast-paced, rapidly growing communication project thatā€™s working to change the world for the better.

On remote work

Remote work is not for everyone. With it comes freedom, but also isolation. Some enjoy remote work; others do not. Some like global video calls; others find them hollow.

We are a group of people who thrive on freedom and diversity, connect well over calls, and love to be working in synchronicity with people around the world. To balance our digital work lives, all our team members have active communities around where we live.

You will not get those regular water-cooler moments, nor those Friday afternoons at the pub with us. You will get a hugely dedicated, diligent team of smart, dynamic people, ambitious about changing the world for the better, and always ready to talk with one another.

Like us, you will be inspired by your colleagues (as we hope to be by you), and you will likely make life-long friends. But if you are worried that you may want more day-to-day, in-person interactions with the people you work with, then a role with us might not be for you.

How to apply

We welcome applications from candidates based anywhere in the world. As this is a contractor role, location is flexible, and you will manage your own invoicing and compliance. Please apply to this role via Workable. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with the final deadline for submissions on Sunday, 5th January 2025.

To apply, please provide:

  • Your CV.
  • A brief cover letter explaining what excites you about working with us. We can generally tell when these have been created with generative AI, and honestly, weā€™d prefer that itā€™s short and authentic!
  • Links to one or two pieces of climate-/nature-related writing that youā€™re particularly proud of.
  • Your earliest available start date.
  • The number of hours per week youā€™d ideally be looking for, and your flexibility on this.

We look forward to receiving your application!
