Role Description

The Office of Economic Innovation at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Technical/Grant Writer.

Reporting to the Project Coordinator for the ARC Broadband Industry Grant Technical Assistance Program, the Technical/Grant Writer will provide technical assistance and grant writing support to eligible entities in their pursuit of grants to support workforce development initiatives and other aligned grants to foster broadband expansion. The Technical/Grant Writing Fellow will focus on the pre-award process. This will include:

  • Creating awareness of grant opportunities
  • Writing proposals
  • Proofreading
  • Fostering collaborations
  • Providing data
  • Other services as needed

Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of related experience
  • Experience with the pre-award process, grant proposal development and submission, and project management
  • Preferred: Connection to the state and experience with post-award grant activity
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment

Requirements

  • Must be a highly motivated, energetic individual equally capable of working independently or in a team setting
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and oral communication and research skills
  • Ability to work with diverse groups and facilitate meetings
  • Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of policies and procedures and applicable regulations mandated by different grantmakers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite
  • Experience with grant portals (e.g., Grants.gov)
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize a variety of tasks and complete them in a timely manner
  • Database management skills
  • Knowledge of current broadband and workforce development trends
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Appointment Length

This position is funded through a subaward from the WV Office of Broadband and is anticipated to be funded for 8.5 months with the possibility of extension, pending funding availability.
