Role Description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Technical Writer to join our Software Development team. This position will be based in Nashville, TN or Houston, TX. Remote applicants with the right blend of skills and experience will also be considered.

With 80 years of experience as a leader in the tolling industry, TransCore continues to shape the future of transportation through innovative hardware and software solutions. We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to develop clear, accurate, and maintainable documentation supporting complex systems, operational workflows, and customer deployments.

Technical Writers at TransCore are part of a growing centralized documentation organization focused on building scalable documentation practices, aligned standards, reusable content strategies, and modern documentation workflows across product and project teams. Writers are expected to independently own their assigned documentation initiatives while collaborating closely with engineering, project management, support teams, SMEs, and documentation leadership throughout the product and project lifecycle.

This role supports Agile Scrum teams and operational stakeholders by delivering documentation aligned with:

• Release readiness
• Deployment execution
• Operational support
• Troubleshooting effectiveness
• Customer enablement

Documentation responsibilities may include:

• Customer-facing guides
• Installation and configuration procedures
• Deployment documentation
• Internal troubleshooting materials
• Operational runbooks
• Workflow documentation
• Reusable documentation assets

Technical Writers are expected to contribute in modern documentation environments that utilize:

• Azure DevOps
• Markdown-based documentation workflows
• Git-based repositories
• Jira
• Confluence
• SharePoint
• Collaborative review processes
• AI-assisted documentation workflows

This is a daytime position with potential hybrid work arrangements for employees in Houston or Nashville. Occasional travel (less than 15% annually) to other locations may be required based on technical or project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 10-13 years of relevant technical documentation experience.
• Experience documenting complex hardware and software systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
• Experience researching, organizing, validating, and presenting technical information.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities, technologies, and project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
• Portfolio demonstrating the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to multiple audiences or completion of a writing assignment to be given during the interview process.
• Willing and able to travel occasionally for business needs.

Requirements

• Experience working within modern AI-assisted documentation workflows and content generation processes.
• Experience with Markdown-based documentation workflows and Git-based version control practices.
• Experience using Azure DevOps, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, Visio, Mintlify, or similar collaboration and documentation platforms.
• Familiarity with documentation-as-code environments and structured content reuse strategies.
• Experience supporting Agile development methodologies and release coordination practices.
• Experience documenting deployment, configuration, installation, or operational workflows.
• Experience working within multi-team enterprise environments supporting hardware and software solutions.
• Experience creating API, integration, or system-level technical documentation.
