Role Description

Task & Purpose is a daily news publication focused on covering the military and veteran community from a rank-and-file perspective. Senior reporters are responsible for delivering impactful, timely, and accurate news on a regular basis. While extensive beat experience is highly valued, we’re looking for a teammate who can bring a range of talents and skills to the table, along with a willingness to share that knowledge with the team.

• The baseline expectation for this role is a story every weekday, though we understand that will sometimes mean none one day and two the next.
• Work closely with editors and fellow reporters to develop strong angles on stories that reflect the publication’s rank-and-file focus.
• Develop and maintain relationships with sources to ensure a steady flow of high-quality and relevant pitches.
• Stay up-to-date on industry trends and best practices, and make recommendations for improvements to the publication's editorial processes.
• Represent T&P’s voice on social media and in occasional media appearances, panels, on our YouTube channel or future programs and podcasts.
• Assist in the development and execution of editorial initiatives and projects.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on conversational writing that makes complicated and inaccessible topics relatable.
• 5+ years of experience in writing, journalism, or related fields.
• A Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
• Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing tools.
• Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• A deep passion for journalism and storytelling.
