Role Description
As a Senior Content Engineer at Upsun, you will redefine how developer documentation is created, maintained, and consumed in an AI-native world. This isn’t a traditional technical writing role; rather than being a bottleneck for content, you are an architect of systems. You will build the AI-powered infrastructure and editorial frameworks that empower engineers and product managers to publish high-quality documentation themselves.
-
You are a systems thinker who thrives on technical ownership.
-
Bridge the gap between hands-on engineering—building Claude skills and content pipelines—and sharp editorial judgment.
-
Set the standards and guardrails for automated workflows to ensure accuracy, clarity, and optimization for both human developers and AI agents.
-
Act as the final quality gate to ensure documentation keeps pace with rapid engineering cycles without sacrificing clarity and "voice".
-
Shift the team from a "writer writes everything" model to a "writer enables everyone to write well" philosophy.
What to expect:
-
AI Content Infrastructure:
Design and build Claude skills, MCP integrations, and automated pipelines that transform internal knowledge into publication-ready docs with minimal manual intervention.
-
Editorial Quality at Scale:
Act as the final reviewer for content produced by AI-assisted workflows and engineers, maintaining a high bar for technical accuracy and polish.
-
Standards & Machine Readability:
Define content structures and metadata standards that ensure our documentation is agent-consumable and machine-parseable.
-
Self-Service Enablement:
Train and support engineers and PMs to document their own features using the tools and frameworks you create.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner closely with Engineering and Product teams to ensure new features ship with documentation-ready context.
-
Feedback & Optimization:
Build automated loops to identify content gaps and outdated docs, using metrics to track quality and documentation satisfaction.
-
Advocacy Support:
Work with Developer Advocates to refine tutorials, blog posts, and SDK documentation for high-visibility releases.
Qualifications
-
Solid Technical Foundation:
Ability to read and write code (TypeScript or Python preferred), build integrations, and work comfortably with SDKs and APIs.
-
Exceptional Writing & Editing:
The skill to take a rough technical draft and turn it into something developers love, with strong opinions on clarity and structure.
-
AI/LLM Tooling Fluency:
Hands-on experience building with or around LLMs, including prompt engineering and AI-assisted workflows.
-
Systems Thinking:
A mindset that prioritizes pipelines and frameworks over one-off documents to solve content problems at the system level.
-
Collaborative Mindset:
A proactive approach to working with engineering and product teams to win buy-in and drive timely results.
-
English Proficiency:
Professional-level fluency in English for writing and global team collaboration.
Requirements
-
Background in Developer Advocacy or DevRel.
-
Experience building MCP servers or similar AI agent integrations.
-
Familiarity with docs-as-code workflows (e.g., Mintlify, Docusaurus).
-
Proven track record of enabling non-writers to produce high-quality content through training or editorial workflows.
-
Contributions to open-source documentation or developer communities.
