Role Description

The New Republic is looking for journalists with up to five years of professional fact-checking experience for the position of reporter-researcher. Reporter-researchers play a key role in carrying forward the tradition of liberal journalism in America.

  • Fact-check articles for the monthly magazine, including:
    • Political coverage
    • Investigative features
    • Profiles
    • Columns
    • Discursive essays
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Covering news quickly and on deadline
    • Attention to detail
    • Searching archives and databases
    • Reaching sources and confirming information
  • Occasionally fact-check web-only stories or provide advance research for articles in progress.
  • Encouraged to pitch ideas and write.
  • Sharp, lively writing style with the ability to identify original angles on the news.
  • Skilled at working in CMS platforms and adept at docking stories quickly and correctly.
  • Self-starters able to juggle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously will thrive in this role.

Qualifications

  • Up to five years of professional fact-checking experience.
  • Experience covering news quickly and on deadline.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to search archives and databases effectively.
  • Initiative to pursue original story angles.
  • Proficient in CMS platforms.

    • Connecticut
    • Maryland
    • New Jersey
    • New York
    • Virginia
    • Washington, D.C.
    • Illinois
    • Florida
  • Full-time remote position.
  • Salary: $60,086 annually.
