Role Description

Peregrine Advisors is seeking a skilled individual to help design and build the lakehouse that a federal agency's data products, reporting, and machine learning run on. This role involves:

• Owning defined parts of the target lakehouse architecture on Azure Databricks.
• Guiding implementation within the program's established architecture.
• Designing components of the lakehouse, including medallion layers and Delta Lake storage.
• Implementing and extending the agency's Unity Catalog governance model.
• Building data models for analytics, including dimensional models and Data Vault.
• Connecting the lakehouse to external sources and analysts through SQL and Power BI.
• Documenting design decisions and reference patterns for owned components.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of data architecture, data engineering, or analytics engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree.
• Hands-on Azure Databricks work, including Delta Lake and medallion architecture.
• Data governance in Unity Catalog, including access control and lineage.
• Data modeling for analytics, including dimensional modeling; Data Vault is a plus.
• Advanced SQL and working Python, including PySpark.
• Experience serving data to analysts and reporting tools.
• Proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• United States citizenship; dual citizenship and green card holders are prohibited by the contract terms.
• The ability to satisfy the required suitability, security, and access requirements.

Requirements

• Experience on a federal system accredited at Impact Level 5 (IL-5) or higher.
• Data architecture work in Microsoft Azure and at least one additional cloud platform.
• Familiarity with Lakehouse Federation, Databricks SQL warehouses, or Azure Data Factory.
• Databricks certification, or a Microsoft Azure architecture or data certification.
• Federal data governance experience, including records, privacy, and security controls.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling.
