Role Description

This is an opportunity to join as the Software Architect, serving as the end-to-end architectural authority for one or more core curriculum and supplemental product platforms. In this role you will own the full architectural lifecycle of assigned systems—spanning current production applications and future-state design.

• Hold explicit accountability for non-functional requirements (performance, reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability).
• Contribute hands-on alongside engineering teams.
• Work closely with product, curriculum, and engineering teams to ensure technical solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with Accelerate Learning’s mission.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline required; Master’s degree preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in senior/architectural leadership roles.
• Demonstrated experience owning the architecture of complex, long-running production systems.
• Proven success defining and delivering architectures for large-scale, cloud-native SaaS products (EdTech strongly preferred).
• Strong foundation in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, authentication/authorization (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, LTI), and API design.
• Proven hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) in production environments.
• Experience with AWS services at scale and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience defining and tracking non-functional requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to balance long-term architectural vision with practical delivery of business priorities.
• Advanced understanding of testing practices and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proven experience developing AI-driven applications leveraging platforms such as OpenAI or Anthropic Claude.
• Excellent communicator with experience collaborating across engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

Requirements

• Own the maintenance and operability of assigned production applications.
• Own the ongoing architectural health of production systems.
• Lead application maintainability efforts.
• Partner with Product, Agile Delivery and Engineering leadership to maintain a platform health backlog.
• Review and approve architectural changes to production systems.
• Ensure existing integrations remain secure, performant, and compliant.
• Act as the explicit owner of Non-Functional Requirements for assigned platforms.
• Define performance and scalability targets in partnership with engineering and QA.
• Establish observability standards.
• Operate as an active delivery participant.
• Collaborate closely with Tech Leads on sprint-level design decisions.
• Participate in code and design reviews.
• Define the future-state product architecture for core curriculum and supplemental platforms.
• Drive adoption of modern cloud-native architectures on AWS.
• Design and evolve AI systems that support student tutoring and instructional assistance.
• Lead technical due diligence for new tools, frameworks, and vendor platforms.
• Mentor senior engineers.
• Provide architectural oversight on critical initiatives.
