Role Description

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer at LaunchDarkly, you will lead the design and delivery of customer-facing product experiences and the backend systems that support them. You will work across the application boundary from intuitive, accessible interfaces to reliable services, APIs, and data flows—and help shape how customers understand, configure, and control software delivery.

This is an opportunity to own complex, high-impact work where engineering judgment is visible. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Data, Staff Engineers, Engineering Managers, and adjacent teams to make complex capabilities feel clear and useful, while ensuring that the underlying systems are scalable, secure, observable, and dependable. Your technical decisions will influence both the product experience and the systems that enable it.

What you’ll do

• Lead the design and delivery of large or ambiguous end-to-end initiatives across frontend and backend systems.
• Develop product experiences using technologies such as TypeScript and React, along with services and APIs using technologies such as Go, Python, or comparable tools.
• Translate customer problems and product goals into thoughtful technical designs, clear tradeoffs, and incremental delivery plans.
• Own work from discovery and design through implementation, launch, measurement, operational support, and iteration.
• Partner with Product, Design, Data, and engineering leaders to balance usability, accessibility, performance, reliability, security, cost, and time to value.
• Establish patterns and practices that improve consistency, maintainability, developer experience, and quality across the product.
• Improve observability and operational health across the frontend and backend systems you touch, and participate in incident response when needed.
• Influence architecture and technical direction through design documents, code reviews, technical discussions, and clear written and verbal communication.
• Mentor engineers and help teammates grow their technical judgment, product instincts, and ability to deliver end-to-end work.
• Represent customer needs and production realities in cross-functional decisions, and connect technical work to measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building and operating production web applications, with a track record of delivering meaningful customer or business impact.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects across frontend and backend layers, including ambiguous requirements or cross-team dependencies.
• Strong experience with a modern frontend framework such as React and a typed language such as TypeScript, or equivalent experience.
• Strong backend experience designing or operating APIs, services, data stores, or asynchronous systems in a production environment.
• Experience with a backend language such as Go, Python, Rust, or an equivalent language.
• Sound judgment across architecture, user experience, accessibility, performance, reliability, security, and maintainability tradeoffs.
• Strong product instincts and the ability to connect technical decisions to customer outcomes and business goals.
• Ability to create alignment with engineers and cross-functional partners through clear communication and inclusive decision-making.
• Experience mentoring engineers, improving team practices, and raising the quality of technical execution.
• A strong sense of ownership for the full lifecycle of the systems and experiences you help build.
• Comfort learning unfamiliar systems and navigating changing priorities with curiosity and a collaborative mindset.

• Target pay ranges based on Geographic Zones for Level 4:
• Zone 1: San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metropolitan Area, Boston, Seattle - $191,800 - $263,670
• Zone 2: Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago - $172,600 - $237,270
• Zone 3: All other US locations - $163,000 - $224,070
• Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
