[Hiring] Senior Backend Engineer @The Agile Monkeys

Role Description

You'd join an international team on the backend of a live product, built in Java with Spring Boot, already in production with real users depending on it. It's real engineering, not ticket-pushing. AI is part of how the team works, and you'll help decide where it actually fits, from writing code to testing and delivery.

Day to day, you'd:

• Build and evolve the Java / Spring Boot services and APIs that power the product.
• Take on a big migration, moving the platform onto a more secure, modern architecture.
• Have a real say in architecture and design decisions.
• Turn fuzzy requirements into something the team can actually build.
• Pick up existing code and make it better, not just keep it breathing.
• Work closely with QA, and show up for the ceremonies that keep everyone moving together.
• Lean on AI where it speeds you up, and be honest about where it gets in the way.

The role runs for a minimum of six months, and can extend if it's going well on both sides. It's full time and fully remote, and there's a release to land before peak season, so there's real momentum to step into.

Qualifications

• More than five years building software.
• Strong Java with Spring Boot, with production APIs and backend services you've designed and shipped yourself.
• A good feel for architecture, data modelling, and the tradeoffs that come with keeping a live system alive.
• You've used AI coding tools enough to have a real opinion on where they help and where they don't.

Requirements

• English at B2 or above, in writing and on a call.
• You can explain a tricky technical situation clearly, to engineers and to people who don't write code.
• You flag things early and can write a proposal that's worth reading.

• We work alongside large companies on the engineering that moves their businesses forward.
