Role Description

Predictable, reliable delivery of quality software is the output of this job, and everything below is in service of it. This job gets more hands-on every quarter, not less.

• Own platform features end to end within the Private Cloud Solutions domain.
• Take work from specification through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing production support across Nutanix and VMware environments.
• Design, deploy, and maintain private cloud infrastructure.
• Work with Nutanix platforms and related virtualization technologies to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure customer environments.
• Build and operate multi-tenant Nutanix environments.
• Support cluster design, deployment, administration, lifecycle management, and ongoing maintenance in shared production environments.
• Improve platform reliability and operational efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work, standardize configurations, and reduce operational risk.
• Translate requirements into clear technical specifications.
• Identify dependencies, capacity needs, failure scenarios, and operational risks early and resolve ambiguity before implementation begins.
• Verify changes before they reach production.
• Validate platform changes, exercise failure scenarios, and provide clear evidence that changes are safe and production-ready.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools as part of your daily workflow.
• Apply agentic tooling to implementation, automation, and review while remaining accountable for the quality and operability of the final result.
• Review infrastructure and technical changes from other engineers.
• Identify design, scalability, reliability, and operational risks early and provide clear, actionable feedback.
• Own the systems you run.
• Participate in on-call rotation, respond to incidents, document root causes and follow-up actions, and continuously reduce operational toil.
• Work safely in existing and unfamiliar environments.
• Understand complex or legacy infrastructure, make incremental improvements without unnecessary redesigns, and leave systems better documented and instrumented than you found them.
• Mentor other engineers.
• Share technical knowledge, explain design and operational decisions, and support less experienced engineers through implementation and review.
• Coordinate dependencies across teams.
• Identify cross-team requirements early and work directly with the relevant engineers to avoid delivery blockers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with Nutanix administration, including initial cluster design, deployment, and setup.
• 5+ years of experience with Nutanix multi-tenant environments, including installation, administration, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
• Strong understanding of virtualization, compute, storage, networking, and production infrastructure.
• Experience building, operating, and supporting highly available private cloud or virtualized environments.
• Experience troubleshooting complex issues across multiple infrastructure layers.
• Experience planning and executing infrastructure changes in production environments.
• Experience participating in an on-call rotation and responding to production incidents.
• Ability to work effectively in unfamiliar or legacy environments and make safe, incremental improvements.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted engineering tools as part of day-to-day technical work.
• Clear written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team across multiple time zones.

Preferred

• 5+ years of experience with Linux administration.
• Experience with VMware administration and virtualization environments.
• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management.
• Experience with multi-tenant private cloud platforms.
• Experience in managed hosting, cloud platforms, or another high-availability service environment.
• Experience reviewing infrastructure changes and mentoring other engineers.
