[Hiring] Front-End Engineer @Rivet

Role Description

Rivet is seeking a design engineer to join our team, where you will:

• Own client-facing surface area end to end — the portal where clients hand over documents, answer questions, and watch a return move toward filed.
• Build the workspace our preparers live in all day, used by roughly 40 people for eight hours a day, four months a year.
• Pair with Anton, our design engineer, to split the surface and set the standards — component patterns, testing, performance budgets, accessibility.
• Ship AI into the interface, ensuring extraction, review, and suggestion flows are clear and user-friendly.
• Engage with users, including preparers on Slack and clients via calls, to observe interactions with your work.

Qualifications

• 4+ years building production web applications, primarily in React.
• Experience owning a product surface end to end, including post-launch responsibilities.
• Ability to read and write enough backend code to unblock yourself.
• Attention to detail regarding loading states, error handling, and performance under various conditions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Requirements

• Comfortable operating in a fast-changing, early-stage environment.

Nice to haves

• Production experience with TanStack (Query, Router, Table).
• Experience deploying to the edge — Cloudflare Workers or similar.
• Familiarity with generated clients from protobuf, gRPC, or Connect RPC.
• Experience building document-heavy or upload-heavy interfaces.
• Strong design sense, especially if you've shipped without a dedicated designer.
• Experience building internal tools for operators.
• Experience with tax-adjacent software — fund administration, payroll, accounting platforms, filing systems.
