[Hiring] Development Team Lead @Sedona Digital

Role Description

As part of our continued growth, we are creating an internal opportunity for a Development Team Lead to provide people leadership and technical direction across Sedona Digital engineering teams. This is a technology-agnostic role with line management responsibility for junior and mid-level developers working across different technologies and client engagements.

You will support developers to perform at their best by:

• Setting clear expectations
• Holding regular one-to-ones
• Providing constructive feedback
• Creating meaningful development plans

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who combines sound engineering judgement with a genuine interest in coaching people, strengthening delivery practices, and building consistent standards across Sedona Digital.

Key Responsibilities

• Line manage developers across technologies, including regular one-to-ones, objective setting, development planning, feedback, and career conversations.
• Create a supportive environment in which team members understand expectations, receive timely coaching, and have clear opportunities to grow.
• Provide technology-agnostic technical leadership, helping teams make proportionate decisions on design, quality, maintainability, testing, security, and delivery approach.
• Work with senior engineers, architects, practice leads, and subject-matter experts when deeper technology-specific guidance is required.
• Monitor team capacity, delivery risks, wellbeing, and development needs, escalating concerns early and following through on agreed actions.
• Support onboarding, probation reviews, performance conversations, and internal progression in line with Sedona Digital processes.
• Promote consistent engineering practices and knowledge sharing across teams, clients, and technology stacks.
• Contribute to recruitment and assessment activities where required, with particular focus on junior and mid-level engineering roles.
• Balance people leadership with an appropriate contribution to delivery, depending on the needs of the team and engagement.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering experience in one or more technology stacks, together with the judgement to lead effectively across technologies.
• Demonstrable experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting the development of other engineers.
• Clear and adaptable communication skills, with the confidence to give feedback, handle difficult conversations, and align people around practical outcomes.
• A solid understanding of modern engineering practices, including code quality, testing, source control, secure development, continuous delivery, and operational ownership.
• The ability to understand unfamiliar technical contexts, ask effective questions, and involve the right specialist rather than relying on a single preferred technology.
• A fair, consistent, and people-focused approach, with good organisation and reliable follow-through.
• Previous formal line management experience is helpful but not essential; applicants should be able to demonstrate leadership potential and a genuine commitment to developing others.
