Role Description

The Information Services Application Development Section, within our Information Services division, is a team made of developers who are passionate about continuous improvement and who actively cultivate a culture of respect, inclusion, and excellence. If you have a passion for clean code, find accomplishment in resolving challenging coding requests, and thrive where innovative approaches to problem solving are required, the Department of Revenue may have the career opportunity for you!

We are seeking to fill an Application Developer Journey position; this position will write, maintain, and improve configuration and code in GenTax, FAST's commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) tax management solution, by applying strong application development knowledge and skills in support of our solution and related interfaces.

  • Perform specialized analysis of business, legislative, and technical requests.
  • Coordinate and implement GenTax changes with other technical staff.
  • Work closely with our business units to demonstrate prototypes and determine solutions.

This is an opportunity to work with dynamic, supportive teams: we value the open exchange of ideas and information, work together to solve problems, and continuously seek ways to enhance usability and improve customer service.

You are someone who actively contributes to group success through constructive feedback, ideas, and suggestions. You enjoy continuous learning, sharing knowledge and skills, and find satisfaction in helping others grow.

Our Application Developer - Journey candidates will:

  • Use DOR and GenTax development tools and languages, such as C#. Net and SQL, to code and configure, test, stage, and implement changes in GenTax.
  • Actively participate in gathering and discovering requirements for system changes.
  • Determine feasibility of recommended solutions, alternatives, and impacts of changes both to GenTax and to the business units.
  • Follow DOR software development standards and project management methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience using SQL and modern programming languages and frameworks—such as .NET and C#—gained through progressively responsible roles developing, maintaining, or enhancing applications and database-driven systems.
  • Proven ability to analyze and resolve moderately complex technical problems through a methodical, structured approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business processes of moderate complexity and propose effective technical solutions.
  • Proven skill in reading, developing, and interpreting business and technical process diagrams.
  • Progressive experience configuring and coding moderately complex applications using COTS and custom development tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and maintain clear, accurate technical documentation understandable to non-technical audiences.
  • Working knowledge of data management constructs, tools, and practices.
  • The ability to take action to learn and grow.
  • The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
  • Uses an equitable and inclusive approach.

Requirements

  • Experience and proficiency in the use of FAST’s GenTax system, including FCR.
  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in computer science or related field to information management with an emphasis in software development.
  • Experience supporting production systems.
  • Experience participating in or supporting activities for one or more agile projects.

Benefits

  • Generous benefits package including defined benefit retirement plans.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Deferred compensation plans.
  • Eligibility for student loan forgiveness.
