Role Description

This role involves being a hands-on technical leader with exemplary bioinformatics skills. You will:

  • Identify risks, issues, gaps, and dependencies and bring people together to define solutions and make decisions.
  • Ensure that all non-functional needs are understood, technical debt is kept low, security and data protection are never compromised, performance and cost are optimized in a cloud environment, and guardrails are adhered to in line with agreed policies.
  • Work alongside Product Managers, Software engineers, and subject matter experts to define a technologically deliverable roadmap.
  • Perform high quality, timely, and accurate product development using state-of-the-art methodologies, tools, and resources in an agile environment.
  • Collaborate with product strategy and other stakeholders to define technological aspects of future product strategy.
  • Provide technical excellence to broad product initiatives and lead complex projects.
  • Interact with cross-functional teams without supervision.
  • Offer innovation and enhance ways of working, sharing new techniques and lessons learned with peers.
  • Plan, implement, and execute POCs with a willingness to experiment and confront complex problems.
  • Collaborate and make proposals across several teams, helping team members make informed decisions in alignment with the products’ strategic plans.
  • Present complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Interact with customers, vendors, partners, and other stakeholders as a consultant and spokesperson for your department.
  • Guide conversations to remove blockers and encourage collaboration across teams.
  • Ensure best bioinformatics and software development practices and standards are followed throughout the organization.
  • Teach, mentor, grow, and provide advice to other domain experts and individual contributors across several teams.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. degree with 8+ years of postdoc or industrial experience or Master's Degree with 10+ years of industrial experience in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or related field.
  • Technical background in healthcare, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, or pharmaceutical companies.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python, R, and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle.
  • Experience with version control systems such as GitHub.
  • Experience with Linux/UNIX/Mac OS X based systems.
  • Experience with high-performance Linux clusters and cloud computing (AWS preferred).
  • Deep understanding of analytical approaches and tools for genomic data analysis along with familiarity with genome databases.
  • Proven expertise in the analysis of NGS data generated on sequencing platforms such as Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, or 10x Genomics will be prioritized.
  • Proven ability to innovate with a history of new or improved product releases.
  • Strong communication, data presentation, and visualization skills.
  • Personal initiative and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High energy, inquisitive, and strong attention to detail.
