Role Description
This role involves working as a Junior Programmer at 37signals, contributing to products like Basecamp and HEY, and engaging in new greenfield projects.
- Work alongside a designer to add new features to existing products.
- Address issues to ensure apps are robust and codebase is clean.
- Collaborate with the product team on various tasks, including:
- Creating a novel way of tracking progress in Basecamp.
- Building a system to export iCalendar feeds for calendar events.
- Creating a Ruby library to parse natural expressions into dates.
- Adding more recurrence options to HEY Calendar.
- Investigating UI issues in HEY.
- Creating an API for Campfire for customer chatbot development.
- Designing a Ruby gem for Web Push notification support in Rails.
- Receive mentorship from senior programmers without dedicated management.
- Communicate effectively through writing, as it is essential for internal collaboration.
Qualifications
- No more than 3 years of professional programming experience.
- Experience with modern Ruby on Rails or similar languages (Python, PHP, JavaScript).
- Familiarity with Turbo, Stimulus, or React is a plus.
- Passionate and curious about new technologies and concepts.
Requirements
- Excellent writing skills for both code and prose.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own tasks.
- Comfortable with the company's stance on political expression and communication.
Benefits
- Salary of $145,849, competitive within the industry.
- 31 days off per year, plus an additional 6 weeks every third year.
- 32-hour work weeks from May 1 - August 31.
- Eligibility for profit sharing after 2 years, with an average bonus of 41% of base salary in 2025.
