This is a technology-focused commercial role requiring strong technical expertise in Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). The successful candidate will combine scientific and applications knowledge with commercial skills to understand complex customer workflows, identify analytical challenges, and position ICP-OES and ICP-MS solutions that address customer needs. Experience working directly with the relative instrumentation, applications, method development, or technical selling is highly valued.

Position Summary:

The Technical Sales Specialist (TSS) is a key commercial role within the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division (CMD) of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The territory covers markets throughout the Western United States and the Western Canadian provinces. This is a technology focused role with the primary responsibility for selling and supporting within CMD.

• Enhance business potential through increased sustained revenue growth of our instrument and consumables portfolio.
• Support sales colleagues by selling the product portfolio within group in new and existing accounts.
• Elevate customer curiosity about the products and drive the Thermo Fisher Scientific value proposition from sample to knowledge.
• Act from the prospecting phase up to the closing phase of the deal.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with analytical instrumentation, including technical sales, applications, laboratory, product, or related customer-facing experience.
• Demonstrated experience with ICP-OES and/or ICP-MS instrumentation is strongly preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, environmental science, forensic science, or a related scientific discipline required; advanced degree preferred.
• Hands-on experience with ICP-OES and ICP-MS instrumentation, applications, method development, or troubleshooting is strongly preferred.
• Technical sales experience in analytical instrumentation is preferred.
• Strong market knowledge and business insight of industry sector, markets and key trends preferred.
• Experience in conducting seminars and presentations.
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and presentation skills.
• Fluent in English and other languages as needed in the assigned region.
• Demonstrated commercial excellence working in a matrix environment.
• Ability to explain and sell the technical aspects of Thermo Fisher Scientific’s scientific product portfolio.
• Ability to travel to customer locations up to 80% including overnight travel.
