[Hiring] Senior Sales Engineer @Prefect

Role Description

Prefect acquired Dagster this summer. Our sales engineers now sell three things: Prefect Cloud, Dagster+, and the next generation of AI tooling we're building across both.

As a Senior Sales Engineer on the Prefect subject-matter-expert pod, you will:

• Own the technical side of enterprise deals from discovery through close.
• Distill the use case for prospects who arrive with a data platform and a pile of tools.
• Sell across the platform, often spanning Prefect, Dagster, FastMCP, hybrid architecture, and AI governance.
• Turn field signal into product direction, acting as a market pulse for the company.
• Build demo environments, architecture diagrams, competitive battlecards, and contribute to internal repos.
• Contribute and advocate for your ideas, championing the culture and addressing issues early.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of engineering experience, building real solutions.
• 2+ years in a customer-facing role with deep discovery skills.
• Curiosity and creativity in problem-solving.
• Ability to explain complex concepts clearly to engineers.

Requirements

• 2+ years of prior sales engineering experience (nice to have).
• 2+ years of Enterprise infrastructure depth in at least one major cloud (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Familiarity with orchestration tooling as a user, builder, or seller.
• Interest in AI and experience with MCP, agents, or LLM applications.

  • San Francisco Bay Area & NYC Metro: $173,000–$222,000
  • Washington D.C., Boston, LA Metro, Seattle: $162,000–$201,000
  • Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, & all other U.S. metros: $154,000–$200,000
