Role Description

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP Empowerment Programs), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for equal rights, seeks a strategic and experienced fundraising leader to serve as Vice President, Institutional Giving. This role is responsible for leading the organization’s institutional fundraising strategy, including partnerships with foundations, corporations, philanthropic institutions, and other grantmaking entities that support the NAACP’s mission and national priorities.

  • Serve as both a frontline fundraiser and a strategic leader.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Oversee a team of frontline fundraisers responsible for cultivating and securing philanthropic investments.
  • Focus on pipeline building with an emphasis on expanding the NAACP’s national donor footprint.
  • Lead efforts to strengthen pipeline discipline and align fundraising strategies across donor segments.
  • Advance a focused set of high-impact funding opportunities.
  • Oversee the development and execution of strategies to secure philanthropic investments that support programmatic initiatives, advocacy efforts, and strategic priorities.
  • Play a key role in supporting high-wealth donor strategies by helping develop and manage a portfolio of principal gifts ($1M+).
  • Identify strategic donor opportunities and coordinate cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Support senior leaders in engagement with high-capacity donors, foundations, and corporate leaders.
  • Work closely with development leadership, program teams, and executive leadership to strengthen philanthropic partnerships.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred; or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Minimum 10-12 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, with demonstrated success securing institutional philanthropic support.
  • Proven experience securing major foundation grants, corporate partnerships, and institutional funding.
  • Experience leading institutional fundraising teams or complex fundraising initiatives.
  • Experience developing strategic partnerships with philanthropic organizations and corporate partners.
  • Experience supporting executive-level donor engagement and high-level fundraising strategy preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of institutional fundraising, grantmaking landscapes, and corporate philanthropy.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and fundraising planning capabilities.
  • Excellent relationship-building and partnership development skills.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly in proposal development and donor communications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and organizational leadership.
  • Commitment to advancing the mission and values of the NAACP.

Requirements

  • Develop and lead a comprehensive institutional fundraising strategy that includes foundations, corporations, and philanthropic institutions.
  • Translate organizational priorities and long-term sustainability strategies into clear funding pipelines, target funding mixes, and annual revenue benchmarks.
  • Strengthen pipeline discipline and prioritize a focused set of high-impact funding opportunities aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Secure significant philanthropic investments that support the NAACP's mission, advocacy priorities, and national programs.
  • Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities with institutional partners.
  • Oversee the development of proposals, sponsorship opportunities, grant submissions, and strategic philanthropic partnerships.
  • Partner with programmatic and organizational leadership to align funding opportunities with program priorities and initiatives.
  • Support institutional fundraising connected to key NAACP events and initiatives, including the NAACP Image Awards, National Convention, and other national campaigns.
  • Identify high-capacity donors, institutional partners, and philanthropic leaders appropriate for senior leadership engagement.
  • Develop strategic cultivation and solicitation plans for prospects within the $1M+ portfolio.
  • Coordinate donor engagement opportunities involving senior leadership.
  • Prepare briefing materials, donor strategy memos, and background information for senior leadership meetings and solicitations.
  • Collaborate with development leadership to ensure alignment between fundraising priorities and broader development strategy.
  • Ensure effective stewardship practices that enhance donor retention, satisfaction, and long-term investment.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to institutional giving staff and related fundraising teams.
  • Establish clear fundraising goals and performance expectations aligned with organizational revenue targets.
  • Establish clear portfolio strategies, performance expectations, and accountability measures for frontline staff.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management to support achievement of individual and team fundraising goals.
  • Foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture across the institutional fundraising team.
  • Build and manage proposal budgets in collaboration with Grant Services and program teams.
  • Work closely with development leadership, program teams, communications, and external affairs to align fundraising opportunities with organizational priorities.
  • Partner with development operations to support grant tracking, reporting, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across individual giving and regional fundraising teams to maximize philanthropic opportunities.
  • Represent the NAACP with philanthropic institutions, corporate leaders, and funding partners.
  • Identify opportunities to expand long-term philanthropic partnerships that support the NAACP's mission and national initiatives.
  • Support strategic fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and major organizational priorities.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Institutional Giving or other designee.
