Role Description

The Business Development Manager is a sales and business development role responsible for managing all aspects of business for F.A. Davis’s print and digital content and resources for a specific territory of customers in the private sector channel in the United States and Canada.

  • Establishing relationships at the corporate level
  • Increasing sales and market share
  • Negotiating agreements and contracts
  • Financial forecasting and developing a regional budget
  • Creating custom content creation opportunities
  • Leading new program and curriculum development
  • Maintaining a transparent relationship with external channel partners
  • Developing any direct reports

Qualifications

  • Experience working within a multi-dimensional team of representatives from various internal departments to create new products and provide solutions to problems that arise
  • Experience drafting and negotiating partnership agreements around utilization of complex products and solutions
  • Experience selling and presenting products over the phone, using established conference call/webinar technologies such as Teams, WebEx, GoToMeeting, Join.Me, etc.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication abilities required
  • Exceptional problem solving and negotiating skills required
  • Extensive travel required (air and car)

Requirements

  • Responsible for the in-depth analysis of all institutions and customers within assigned territory and to have working knowledge of all national accounts
  • Maintain relationships with all F.A. Davis private sector strategic partners, licensees, and content providers
  • Evaluate, train, develop, and manage all areas of assigned private sector direct reports; including revenue, new custom solutions, product knowledge, financial forecasts, expenses and travel, and career development
  • Exceed annual sales goal set for the private sector channel
  • Develop strong knowledge of F.A. Davis's expanding digital solutions in order to direct sales strategies for maximum potential of content use and digital revenue
  • Establish and maintain key contacts at the executive level
  • In collaboration with sales management, negotiate and draft contracts and agreements with private sector customers and strategic partners for curriculum and custom solutions, coordinate execution of agreements internally and externally
  • Attend product strategy and development (PS&D) and marketing strategy sessions
  • Monitor monthly sales reporting for accuracy, ordering patterns, and customer analysis
  • Track major opportunities for reporting and follow up
  • Report on market conditions, trends, and opportunities in the competitive environment
  • Monitor and manage territory expenses, including comp copy distribution to ensure compliance with forecasted budget
  • Attend state, regional, and national conferences for the private sector as needed
  • Complete special projects as assigned by sales management

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
