Role Description

Help IAVI translate science into global health impact as a Senior Scientist!

IAVI is seeking a Senior Scientist, Antibody Translational Research to lead innovative antibody research programs that advance global health while building sustainable scientific capacity across Africa. The Senior Scientist is responsible for the conceptualization, development, and execution of preclinical and translational research activities advancing antibody science at IAVI. The Senior Scientist executes their responsibilities in partnership with strategic, technical, and programmatic leads within the Discovery Science team at IAVI. The Senior Scientist will work extensively with IAVI’s Global Clinical Laboratory Operations and Immunology teams, as well as the network of partnered research institutions across East and Southern Africa.

The Senior Scientist designs programming to promote innovation, technical rigor, and collaboration to establish sustainable research platforms within the antibody research community in Africa. The Senior Scientist aligns the antibody translational research agenda with the conceptualization and implementation of novel research activities, building and nurturing partnerships as part of this process and assisting and advising stakeholders on technical and programmatic matters to ensure successful delivery.

Qualifications

• A proven research track record accompanied by a good publication record in the field of HIV translational science is required.
• Experience in managing multi-center research projects is required.
• Proven success in medical/academic research management and administration.
• Proven success in servicing committees.
• Excellent planning, project management, and organizational skills to multitask and prioritize.
• Excellent reasoning and analytical skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships at all levels.
• Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills are required.
• Computer literacy, with advanced Microsoft Office skills, is required.
• Previous work experience in the field of Global Health and/or HIV is desirable.
• Proven experience in project MEL is desirable.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% is required.

Requirements

• A Ph.D. in Immunology or Virology or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 5 years’ work experience in a medical/academic/research environment is required; experience in translational immunology research is preferred.
• Experience in immune assays such as Flow Cytometry, ELISA, B-cell and/or T-cell responses evaluation, as well as Molecular Biology is required.
• Experience with post-graduate student supervision and mentorship is required.
