Role Description

Are you looking for a full-time IT job that works less than 40 hours per week? Do you have great project management skills? The City of Madison Information Technology Department is looking to hire a Project Manager to join the IT Project Portfolio Team. The IT Project Portfolio Team is a group of project managers who lead technology projects and manage their assigned portfolios, focusing on strategic oversight of IT investments, projects, and initiatives.

IT Project Managers are responsible for project management from initiation to closure using agility, flexibility, and an end-user-centric approach to ensure high user adoption and user satisfaction. The IT Application & Development Project Manager will support application and development technology, enterprise project management work, and project portfolios.

In this position, the Project Manager will need to:

• Facilitate collaboration between team members, agencies, sponsors, leadership, and other impact parties to support informed decision-making and project success.
• Serve as the bridge between IT and customers to enable informed decision-making and support customers in their technological and business objectives.
• Work under general supervision of IT’s Administrative, Finance & Project Portfolio Manager and the IT Portfolio Manager Team Lead.

This work involves leading projects through budgeting, planning, implementation, and supporting documentation. The work requires considerable judgment, discretion, and expertise to successfully implement, manage, and evaluate projects and initiatives at the agency level.

Qualifications

• Implement third-party software purchases from evaluation to production.
• Plan for system scalability, growth, and budget requirements.
• Develop realistic estimates, establish realistic schedules, and meet deadlines consistently.
• Facilitate projects, recommend change, and communicate methods.
• Work independently and manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
• Resolve problems in a timely and effective manner with both users and project team members.
• Communicate and work effectively with users, department staff, vendors, and consultants.
• Work well under pressure.

Requirements

• Four (4) years of experience applying personal computer system technology (hardware and software) installation and/or troubleshooting.
• A wide range of software and hardware applications.
• Project management tools and techniques on large-scale projects.
• Assessment and implementation of third-party software purchases.
• Assessment of business needs and determination of appropriate technology solutions.
• OR Two (2) years of advanced-level professional IT Specialist experience, similar to that of an IT Specialist 2 with the City of Madison.
• Two (2) years of project management experience.
• Associate's or higher-level degree in computer science or a related field.
