[Hiring] Staff Product Manager @Root Insurance

Role Description

Root is looking for a Staff Product Manager to define the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the platforms that power our pricing advantage. This is a highly cross-functional PM role focused on enabling faster, higher-quality pricing decisions and model deployment across the company.

• Own critical pricing capabilities, including our internal tool Pricing Platform System (PPS).
• Lead the evolution of the infrastructure, tooling, and decisioning systems at the center of Root’s pricing ecosystem.
• Shape the systems that determine how quickly we turn data and models into market-leading pricing decisions.
• Help build the next generation of Root’s machine learning platform for pricing.
• Work closely with researchers on problems including:
  • Feature pipelines and feature stores
  • Reproducible model training and orchestration
  • Model registries and versioning
  • Automated validation
  • Model serving
  • Production observability
  • Tooling that ensures consistency between research and production
• Explore how emerging LLM technology can revolutionize the data science workflow.

Salary Range

$168,300 - $210,980 (Eligible for competitive bonus and equity offering)

How You Will Make an Impact

• Own the Pricing platform roadmap and iterate on the vision for 2027 and beyond.
• Lead a team of engineers through the full product lifecycle, from ideation to implementation and iteration.
• Partner closely with Engineering, Data Science, and Actuarial to identify platform needs, prioritize investments, and define a roadmap.
• Guide the development of end-to-end ML platform capabilities.
• Write clear product requirement documentation (PRDs) that align business strategy with engineering plans.
• Cultivate a prioritized product backlog using robust product frameworks and data-driven decision making.
• Accelerate the path from new data and model features to production deployment.
• Improve pricing workflow speed, reliability, observability, and usability.
• Build self-service tooling that enables faster experimentation and feature creation.
• Reduce operational and regulatory bottlenecks across pricing and filing workflows.
• Support Root’s nationwide expansion by adapting pricing capabilities to meet specific regulatory and operational needs of new states.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of product management experience, ideally in fintech, insurtech, or another data-intensive regulated environment.
• Strong systems thinking and comfort with technical concepts like predictive modeling, APIs, and workflow orchestration.
• Drive the integration of LLMs and advanced AI capabilities directly into daily data science workflows.
• Data-driven mindset; experience working with data scientists and analytics partners.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into simple user experiences.
• Experience in agile development methodologies.
• Customer-centric mindset with demonstrated success in improving user experiences.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
• Adaptable approach to scope and responsibilities in a growing organization.
• Collaborative work style with the ability to influence without direct authority.
• Roll-up-the-sleeves work ethic and "do-what-it-takes" attitude to drive results in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to travel 10% of the time (quarterly in-person team events).

Preferred

• Experience as a data scientist, analyst, or Product Manager partnering closely with data science and ML engineering teams.
• Experience working in insurtech, preferably in the risk and pricing ecosystem.
