Role Description

Scientific Services runs the work around the science so that our customers' scientists do not have to. The practice covers:

• General lab services such as glassware, consumables, PPE, gas management, and freezer farms.
• Scientific support such as media and reagent preparation, chemical inventory, scientific shipping, and metrology.
• Technical and analytical work including assay support, cell and tissue culture, purification, and instrument-based services such as flow cytometry, LC-MS, NMR, NGS, and high-content imaging.

The Practice Director owns Scientific Services globally as a product, defining:

• What the practice sells.
• Why customers buy it.
• What it costs to deliver.
• How it is priced and how it evolves.

The Director carries accountability for its revenue, growth, and profit, enabling:

• The commercial organization to sell it.
• The operational organization to deliver it.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific, technical, or engineering discipline and 12 or more years of progressive experience in scientific, laboratory, or technical services, including at least 5 years with commercial ownership of a service line, practice, or portfolio and at least 5 years leading teams;
• OR Advanced degree (MSc, PhD, or MBA) in a relevant discipline and 10 or more years of progressive experience with the same commercial and leadership content;
• OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requirements

• Ownership of a services offering, practice, or service line with accountability for revenue, growth, and margin, at scale and across more than one geography.
• Offering management discipline applied to services: market assessment, value proposition definition, pricing and packaging, lifecycle management, and build, buy or partner decisions.
• Deep credibility in scientific and laboratory operations within regulated (GxP) life science environments.
• Track record of designing and launching new services and scaling them to profitable delivery.
• Influence without authority across a global matrix.
• Recruiting, developing, and retaining senior scientific and technical experts in a competitive market.

Benefits

• The annual compensation range for this full-time position is $190,000 to $230,000 + Bonus.
• The final base pay offered will be determined by factors including internal equity, work location, and individual qualifications.

Working Environment

• The role may be based on the East Coast of the United States or in the United Kingdom.
• Requires working patterns that accommodate multiple time zones.
• Travel of up to approximately 30 to 40 percent to customer sites, company locations, partner sites, and industry events, including international travel.
• Must be able to work in a laboratory or controlled environment requiring personal protective equipment.
• Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25 percent of the time.
• Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).
• Specific vision abilities required include close range and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Potential risk from lab-based hazards including extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
