[Hiring] Chief Technology Officer @flatfair

Role Description

We’re looking for a CTO to lead Technology and Product and help us build the foundations for the next stage of growth.

• You’ll work closely with the CEO and wider leadership team to turn business priorities into products and technology that deliver real value for our customers and partners.
• This is a broad role in a small team, moving comfortably between company priorities, technical decisions, team leadership, and delivery detail.
• A key part of the role is shaping how our technology develops, setting direction, making bigger technical calls, and putting the right frameworks and standards in place.
• You’ll stay close to the technology, reviewing architecture and code, challenging thinking, and contributing directly when that adds value.
• Product management will also sit within your remit, bringing Product and Engineering together around clear priorities, strong problem definition, and a practical path from idea through to delivery and measurement.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering background and established experience leading technology at a senior level.
• Experience owning the bigger picture across technical direction, delivery, product, team capability, and decisions shaping technology support for the wider business.
• Meaningful part of your career spent in start-ups, scale-ups, or smaller technology businesses.

Requirements

• Senior technology leadership experience in smaller, growing businesses.
• Strong technical judgement across software architecture, cloud platforms, APIs, and integrations.
• Experience owning engineering delivery end to end.
• Enough coding depth to stay close to the technology and contribute when useful.
• Strong product judgement and experience working closely with, or overseeing, product management.
• Experience creating frameworks, standards, and clear technical ownership that help engineers build well.
• Good judgement when balancing speed, commercial value, platform health, technical debt, and risk.
• A track record of developing engineers and raising capability in a small team.
• The confidence to challenge constructively, listen well, and make clear decisions when priorities compete.
• Clear communication with both technical and non-technical teams.
• Experience in SaaS, fintech, insurtech, proptech, or another technology-enabled service business would be useful, but isn’t essential.
