The Chief Product Officer (CPO) is responsible for defining and executing a comprehensive product strategy that spans professional learning services, consulting, and SaaS-based solutions that empower educators and school and district leaders. This role requires a balance of visionary leadership, strategic execution, and cross-functional collaboration to drive innovation in K-12 instruction and strategic planning. The CPO will lead the product team in developing user-centered solutions that improve student outcomes at scale while ensuring product-market fit, scalability, and revenue growth. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between technology, business, and education, ensuring that product development aligns with company objectives, market demands, and the evolving needs of school systems.

Here are some things you can expect to accomplish in this role:

  • Strategic Leadership & Execution: Develop and articulate a comprehensive product vision and strategy that reflects the realities schools and districts face in improving instruction, implementing strategic plans, and managing change at scale. Own the product roadmap, ensuring prioritization balances customer needs, market opportunities, and business growth across SaaS, professional learning services, and consulting. Drive innovation and differentiation, positioning the company as a leader in the EdTech space. Ensure data-driven decision-making by leveraging analytics, user feedback, impact studies, and industry research to shape product innovation.
  • Product Evangelism & Market Leadership: Serve as a thought leader and champion for BetterLesson offerings and solutions, inspiring both internal teams and external stakeholders. Stay ahead of K-12 and EdTech market trends, emerging technologies, and competitive dynamics to ensure our products remain relevant, impactful, and aligned to real-world challenges.
  • Growth & Business Development: Identify and evaluate strategic acquisitions, partnerships, and third-party integrations that accelerate growth and expand market reach. Work closely with the Sales and Customer Success teams to understand market trends and enhance product adoption, long-term engagement, and measurable impact. Support the development of monetization strategies that drive sustainable revenue growth while maintaining a strong focus on user value and student outcomes.
  • Product Discovery & Experimentation: Champion best practices in product discovery, leveraging user research, A/B testing, and iterative development. Foster a culture of experimentation, ensuring that the team continuously tests hypotheses, gathers feedback, and refines solutions. Drive customer-centric product development, ensuring solutions directly address educator and learner needs.
  • Operational Excellence: Define and implement product development processes, workflows, and KPIs in collaboration with Engineering, Data Science, and Learning Experience teams to optimize efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure product teams have the tools, resources, and frameworks necessary to deliver high-impact solutions. Ensure a unified product experience with seamless alignment between go-to-market strategies and user experience. Lead data integration efforts, ensuring seamless interoperability between K-12 systems, actionable insights for educators, and rigorous data management practices that drive both business growth and student impact. Partner with Data & Analytics teams to track key product performance indicators and ensure product adoption translates into improved educator practice and student learning outcomes.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Build, mentor, and scale a world-class team of product leaders, engineers, data scientists, learning experience architects, and designers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence. Create career growth opportunities and professional development paths for product managers, designers, and learning experience architects who are passionate about transforming education. Cultivate an inclusive and high-performing culture, ensuring diverse perspectives contribute to our mission-driven innovation. The CPO will also collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success to ensure a cohesive go-to-market strategy and seamless customer experience.
  • Board Reporting: Provide strategic product insights and updates to the executive team and Board of Directors as needed, ensuring transparency around product vision, innovation, and business impact. This includes presenting key product milestones, roadmap developments, market opportunities, and how our solutions measurably impact student success.

About You:

  • 10+ years of experience in Product Management, Strategy, or Innovation within EdTech, SaaS, or digital learning platforms.
  • Proven success leading EdTech product teams in delivering solutions that drive measurable change in K-12 schools and districts.

  • Deep understanding of user experience, product development, and business strategy.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a track record of driving cross-functional alignment.

We Can Offer You:

  • Health and other employee benefits.
  • Equity in the business you are helping to build.
  • A flexible schedule and vacation policy.
