Role Description

As our Referral Specialist, you will orchestrate patient access to specialized care by expertly managing all referral and authorization processes.

• Proactively obtain clearances for specialty visits.
• Issue referrals for ancillary services (consults, imaging, labs).
• Secure approvals for medications, DME, home health, and other vital services.
• Demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ensure clear communication to facilitate seamless and efficient service delivery for our patients.
• Collaborate across departments with physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), clinic, revenue cycle, hospital, and ancillary department staff.
• Schedule patients for referred services in various clinic and hospital departments.
• Utilize applicable EMR scheduling programs.
• Effectively communicate with the patient/patient representative to gather pertinent demographic information and referral preferences.
• Collaborate with clinic staff and revenue cycle staff to validate pre-authorization for referred services.
• Manage referral work queues in the EMR, accurately documenting referral process steps.
• Ensure completion of the referral process with final status communication back to the referring clinician.
• Ensure referral orders are entered accurately into the EMR.
• Communicate with the referring clinician for any necessary changes or clarifications.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate / GED.
• Minimum of one year healthcare related experience, preferably in a position involving scheduling and EMR utilization.
• Experience with Google Suite or Microsoft Office products.
