Role Description
The Pharmacy Operations Technician keeps prescriptions moving and the Director’s operating work on time. Half the role is technician work in the pharmacy workflow, and the other half is operations support to the Director of Pharmacy.
What you will do
-
Pharmacy workflow (about half the week):
-
Enter new prescriptions in PioneerRx accurately and completely (patient, prescriber, drug, directions, diagnosis code, insurance).
-
Run prior authorizations end to end: intake, CoverMyMeds or payer portal submission within one business day, status chase, denial routing to the prescriber’s office with the covered options, and the log entry for every PA.
-
Work manufacturer copay programs and foundation assistance (AssistPoint and others) for patients with high out-of-pocket costs; keep the assistance tracker current.
-
Handle transfers in and out, plan-mandated pharmacy transfers the same day, and the task back to the office; keep the transfer-out register.
-
Follow up with physician offices by OncoEMR or ModMed task on anything the pharmacy is waiting for (new scripts, clarifications, denial decisions), and answer office questions on status the same day.
-
Back up phones and refill outreach calls when the pharmacy is short.
-
Operations support to the Director (about half the week):
-
Pull and format the pharmacy’s operating reports on schedule: weekly volume and first-fill counseling counts, the PA log read, the not-picked-up and missing-receipt lists, monthly pre-close answers for finance, and the office-level script tracker.
-
Maintain the trackers behind the pharmacy’s programs: accreditation document index and upload status, the patient management program logs, the weekly office prescription lists for tuck-in practices, and vendor and equipment follow-ups.
-
Prepare and update one-page guides and office handouts from the Director’s drafts; keep the version history.
-
Track the Director’s open items with offices, vendors and OneOncology teams and chase them to closure; prepare short status notes before his meetings.
-
Keep the shared mailbox and task queues triaged, and flag anything patient-safety or deadline-critical to the Director or the pharmacist on duty the same hour.
Qualifications
-
Florida registered pharmacy technician (active), and PTCB or ExCPT certification.
-
Three or more years in specialty pharmacy, including prior authorizations and copay or foundation assistance; oncology experience preferred.
-
Working knowledge of a pharmacy management system (PioneerRx preferred), CoverMyMeds, and at least one practice EMR (OncoEMR, ModMed or similar).
-
Strong Excel (filters, pivot tables, lookups) and clear written communication; you will write to physicians’ offices and to leadership.
-
Reliable, self-directed remote work habits: a quiet, private workspace where screens cannot be seen by others, a secure connection, company-issued equipment only, and the discipline to work a queue and report what is done and not done.
-
Florida residency; a Florida pharmacy technician registration is required for remote work on Florida prescriptions.
-
HIPAA fluency: no patient identifiers outside approved systems, ever.
Benefits
-
Fully remote work environment.
-
Core hours Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Eastern, on camera for huddles and paired work.
-
Occasional visits to Bonita Springs by arrangement (orientation, accreditation survey week, the pharmacy move), expensed.
-
Onboarding is paired remotely with the Director and the pharmacists: screen-shared PioneerRx and CoverMyMeds sessions, the station guides, and a daily check-in for the first month.
Success at six months
-
New-prescription data entry off the pharmacists’ plates.
-
Every PA logged and submitted within one business day.
-
The weekly and monthly reports out on schedule without the Director building them.
-
Office follow-ups answered the same day.
Why this role exists
The pharmacy ships about 60 to 65 prescriptions a working day and is adding practices. This position moves the new-prescription data entry and the operating reports to a technician so pharmacists can focus on verification and counseling, and the Director can run the pharmacy.
