Role Description

The Nursing Home Surveyor (Nurse Consultant I) position involves regulatory activities to determine compliance of nursing homes with federal and state requirements through inspections.

• Surveying nursing homes during routine surveys and complaint investigations.
• Completing survey reports, including statements of deficiency and complaint allegation findings.

Must pass the Federal Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) after training.

This is a home-based position servicing the following counties: Alexander, Allegheny, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Caldwell, Catawba, Davie, Gaston, Henderson, Iredell, Madison, Polk, Surry, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yancey. The Nursing Home Surveyor spends an average of three days per week in nursing homes conducting inspections. Occasionally, inspections are required on weekends and night shifts. Although management attempts to schedule inspections within a region, the consultant needs to expect overnight stays when the nursing home is greater than 60 miles from their home base.

Qualifications

• Strong clinical background, including assessment, care planning, and delivery of care.
• Demonstrated skills in communicating effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to compose technical reports using good grammar.

Requirements

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
• One year of experience in the area of specialization.
