Role Description

This position is a limited duration anticipated to last through 6/30/2028, though may be extended or decreased due to business need. We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a medical case review role. This is a remote work opportunity.

This position offers an opportunity to utilize your clinical knowledge and critical-thinking skills to:

• Review medical records
• Evaluate the appropriateness of care
• Ensure compliance with established clinical guidelines and standards
• Coordinate regularly with Department of Justice partners for litigation purposes

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and committed to promoting quality patient care while working independently in a remote environment.

Core responsibilities include:

• Providing professional clinical expertise
• Conducting comprehensive reviews and creating summaries of medical records
• Evaluating the adequacy, appropriateness, timeliness, and justification of medical care
• Coordinating ongoing health care services with appropriate institutions
• Communicating pertinent information to the Chief of Medicine
• Tracking compliance with treatment plans and maintaining secure documentation
• Explaining disease processes and clarifying medical orders
• Reporting changes in patient conditions
• Communicating medical rationale to non-medical personnel
• Providing testimony on behalf of ODOC when needed

This position is represented by American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and may be eligible for Police & Fire (P&F) benefits through Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), as defined by statute.

Qualifications

• Possess a valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse's License at the time of appointment
• Preference given to candidates with an unencumbered license
• Desired qualification includes experience in providing direct court testimony (or willingness to do so)
• Experience in preparing detailed summaries of medical care
