Role Description

The primary role of the Home Infusion Nurse is to provide clinical care and education to home-based and AIS patients receiving a wide range of parenteral medications dispensed from Optum Infusion Pharmacy (the “Company”).

• Service delivery takes place in patient homes, alternate care settings, and in ambulatory infusion suites (AIS), where available.
• All infusion services and medication delivery are provided in accordance with Optum Infusion Pharmacy policies, procedures, and therapy-specific protocols.
• The Home Infusion Nurse fills an integral role in the clinical operations of the organization, working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team.
• Part time, 20hrs a week with ability to grow hours.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Establish and maintain positive clinical rapport with patients and their families.
• Assess patient appropriateness for home infusion therapy.
• Obtain and document patient’s medical history at the start of care and ongoing.
• Complete all required clinical documentation thoroughly and timely.
• Participate in case conferences as needed.
• Provide comprehensive skilled care to patients of varying ages and medical conditions.
• Establish, secure, and maintain vascular access devices as prescribed.
• Administer medications as prescribed, performing clinical assessments.
• Communicate observations of patient response to therapy with members of the care team.
• Establish collaborative relationships with home health agencies (HHAs).
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge base of infusion therapies.
• Maintain current nursing licensure in all states in which patients are serviced.
• Comply with all State and Federal regulations and laws.
• Complete all training as required upon hire and annually per policy.
• Serve as a professional representative of the Company.
• Assist in staff orientation and training.
• Drive personal/rental vehicle in the completion of job duties.
• May be required to work any day or shift as needed.
• May be required to transport, lift or carry equipment and supplies into patient homes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Active and unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state(s) of Tennessee with a compact license or willing to obtain compact license within 90 days of hire.
• 1+ years of clinical experience working as an RN doing IVs and/or Infusions.
• Proven effective teaching skills.
• Proven excellent organizational and critical thinking skills.
• Proven effective interpersonal communications, both written and verbal.
• Proficient with electronic medical record documentation.
• Willing and able to work with an interdisciplinary team of professionals.
• Willing and able to work independently in home settings.
• Willing to work within a 2-hour radius of Knoxville, TN.
• Willing to work with pediatrics to geriatrics.
• Willing and able to assume a flexible work schedule.
• Access to reliable transportation.

Requirements

• 1+ years of experience working as an RN in a home health setting.
• Experience administering infusion therapy in a home or alternate-site setting.
• Knowledge of the Infusion Nursing Society (INS) standards of practice.
• Knowledge of HIPAA patient privacy and data security requirements.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
