Role Description
We are looking for a hands-on public relations professional who has actually pitched reporters, developed media relationships, and helped secure meaningful earned coverage. This is an execution-focused, multi-client role with the opportunity to help shape a growing earned-media and digital PR practice. You should be able to take an approved campaign direction and independently move it from research and messaging through outreach, follow-up, and reporting.
About the Role
The PR Specialist will support a growing portfolio of legal, litigation, and advocacy clients, including:
-
Case announcements
-
Attorney thought leadership
-
Public affairs
-
Sensitive advocacy campaigns
You will execute day-to-day earned-media work across multiple accounts while partnering with PR leadership on positioning, client priorities, and high-value opportunities.
As RR Digital develops a broader digital PR offering, you will also help plan and execute campaigns built around:
-
Original research
-
Data
-
Relevant news
-
Expert commentary
-
Podcasts
-
Newsletters
-
Digital publishers
You will collaborate with SEO, link-building, content, and social teams, while keeping clear distinctions between independently earned coverage, paid placements, and press release syndication.
What You'll Do
-
Own execution of assigned campaigns: organize briefs, draft materials, build targeted outlet lists, conduct outreach, follow up, manage responses, and report results.
-
Pitch journalists, editors, podcast producers, newsletter writers, and other relevant publishers with individualized, newsworthy angles; maintain and grow authentic media relationships.
-
Draft and edit press releases, story pitches, attorney commentary, statements, interview briefs, thought-leadership materials, and client updates.
-
Identify proactive opportunities from breaking news, litigation developments, public records, client milestones, and timely trends.
-
Support digital PR campaigns promoting credible original research, surveys, useful resources, and data-driven stories; coordinate outreach sequencing, exclusives, and embargoes when appropriate.
-
Collaborate with SEO and link-building colleagues to connect editorial opportunities with relevant content and audience goals, without compromising journalistic standards or pitching solely for links.
-
Coordinate attorneys and clients for interviews, approvals, and time-sensitive journalist requests; maintain accurate calendars, status updates, and campaign records.
-
Monitor and clearly distinguish independent earned coverage, wire syndication, editorial mentions and links, referral activity, and other campaign outcomes.
-
Help refine repeatable processes, reporting templates, campaign intake, and cross-team workflows as the earned-media practice grows.
-
Handle confidential and sensitive legal and survivor-advocacy matters with care, accuracy, sound judgment, and discretion.
Who You Are
-
A resourceful publicist who enjoys finding a real story and persuading the right journalist to care about it.
-
Comfortable owning the details of an account or campaign while knowing when to escalate sensitive strategic or legal questions.
-
Curious, collaborative, precise, and able to work in an evolving department without waiting for perfect processes.
-
Motivated by quality of placements and relationships, not just email volume, syndication counts, or vanity metrics.
What Success Looks Like
-
Assigned client campaigns advance from approved strategy to timely, accurate materials and sustained outreach with limited day-to-day oversight.
-
Journalists and digital publishers receive relevant pitches; reporter engagement and substantive earned opportunities increase over time.
-
Cross-functional digital PR pilots are coordinated efficiently, with clearly owned contacts, messaging, approvals, and results.
-
Clients and internal teams receive dependable updates and reporting that distinguishes types of coverage and their actual value.
-
PR leadership gains capacity for high-level strategy, relationships, service development, and growth because campaign execution is in reliable hands.
Position Details
-
Full-time, remote (United States).
-
Candidates must be based in the United States and authorized to work without sponsorship.
-
RR Digital is open to strong candidates from agency, in-house, legal, and adjacent earned-media backgrounds.
Required Qualifications
-
Roughly 3 to 5 years of hands-on PR/media relations experience, preferably in an agency or other fast-moving, multi-account environment; candidates with equivalent experience are welcome.
-
Demonstrated experience independently pitching media, following up appropriately, managing inquiries, and contributing to genuine earned coverage (not only drafting releases or distributing them).
-
Excellent writing, editing, and news judgment, including the ability to translate technical or sensitive material into accurate, compelling stories.
-
Strong organization and accountability: able to move several live campaigns forward, manage approvals and deadlines, and communicate progress without constant supervision.
-
Confidence working with clients, subject-matter experts, journalists, and colleagues across different functions.
-
Understanding of editorial independence and the distinctions among earned media, sponsored content, and press release distribution.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience in legal or litigation PR, public affairs, corporate communications, advocacy, consumer issues, or other high-stakes/regulated fields.
-
Experience with digital PR, data-led outreach, surveys, original research, online editorial publishers, newsletters, or podcasts.
-
Familiarity with Muck Rack, Cision, PR Newswire, media monitoring platforms, and media contact databases.
-
Working understanding of how editorial mentions, relevant links, referral traffic, SEO, and brand visibility intersect; prior link-building production experience is not required.
-
Experience creating concise, client-ready coverage reports and identifying actionable lessons from campaign results.
