Role Description
Red Carrot is hiring a Communications Director to lead client delivery across a portfolio of marketing and communications accounts for federal agency clients.
If you have run accounts at a marketing, PR, advertising, or communications agency, you already have most of what this job takes. You manage scope, budgets, teams, and demanding clients, and you know what great campaign and creative work looks like.
What you'll do
-
Lead the accounts
-
Own day-to-day delivery across your accounts: scope, timelines, deliverables, and reporting.
-
Serve as the main point of contact for client leads and their teams, running kickoffs, status meetings, and quarterly and annual reviews.
-
Track milestones so campaigns, creative, reports, and other deliverables go out on time and on spec.
-
Own client performance evaluations (on federal contracts these are formal ratings called CPARS), including monthly reports, self-assessments, and responses.
-
Keep account documentation and SOPs organized in Asana, SharePoint, and Teams.
-
Guide the work
-
Turn client goals into strategic communications and marketing plans.
-
Oversee digital, social, creative, research, and outreach campaigns.
-
Review and approve creative, social content, briefs, and editorial products before they reach the client.
-
Use performance data and KPIs to optimize campaigns and shape strategy.
-
Lead the team and grow the accounts
-
Manage account staff and project managers, and coordinate creative, digital, subcontractor, and partner teams.
-
Manage account budgets, staff hours, burn rates, and other direct costs; review invoices and timesheets.
-
Spot opportunities to expand scope and propose new solutions; support pricing and estimates for new work and renewals.
-
Contribute to new business proposals, including writing, team resumes, and case studies.
Qualifications
-
8+ years in account management, client services, or program management at a marketing, PR, advertising, or communications agency, or a comparable in-house role.
-
A track record managing client budgets, scopes of work, and multi-disciplinary teams across several accounts at once.
-
Hands-on experience with digital, social, creative production, or integrated campaigns.
-
Comfort with marketing analytics: reading KPIs and turning data into recommendations.
-
Strong writing and presentation skills, and confidence leading conversations with senior clients.
-
Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Asana, SharePoint, Teams, and Microsoft Office.
-
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
