Role Description
Our customers buy a DNA kit, activate it, wait for results, and then opt into a subscription. What they hear from us along the way helps decide whether they stay. You’ll be the first dedicated owner of lifecycle and retention marketing, building the playbook and the program from the ground up. You’ll be judged on retention, subscription engagement, and customer lifetime value.
You’ll report to the Head of Marketing & Growth and partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Data. You’ll bring customer insight and messaging expertise, and they’ll own the product experience.
What You'll Do
-
Own lifecycle marketing strategy across onboarding, kit activation, results delivery, subscription engagement, retention, win-back, and referral.
-
Write messages that keep customers engaged, turning complex genetic and health concepts into clear, motivating copy for non-expert audiences.
-
Dig into subscription and behavioral data to understand where and why customers disengage, and turn those findings into campaigns.
-
Share customer insights with Product so they inform the roadmap.
-
Build, launch, and optimize automated campaigns across email, SMS, push, and in-product messaging.
-
Drive awareness and adoption of features and results through targeted, personalized messaging.
-
Design and run experiments with clear hypotheses and success metrics across messaging, offers, timing, channels, and audiences.
-
Go beyond topline reporting to understand why performance changed and decide what to do next.
-
Tell Engineering and Product what you need tracked and why, and follow through to launch.
-
Use AI daily to move faster on ideation, drafting, QA, and analysis.
Qualifications
-
7+ years in lifecycle, CRM, or retention marketing at direct-to-consumer subscription companies. You’ve owned recurring revenue and retention, not just email sends.
-
You’ve diagnosed and fixed a retention cliff before. You can walk us through the data, the root cause, what you changed, and the impact on churn or LTV.
-
You’ve worked at an early-stage company (seed through Series B, or a small team where you owned lifecycle end to end), where you built programs from scratch and wore many hats.
-
Strong writing, with a portfolio showing lifecycle campaigns and the results they drove.
-
Hands-on experience in a lifecycle platform (Blueshift, Braze, Iterable, Klaviyo, or similar), including building segments and triggered journeys yourself.
-
Comfortable with data. You can pull your own cohorts and retention analyses, using SQL or BI tools, and read experiment results with good judgment.
-
Experience working with a CDP such as Segment.
-
Experience translating technical or scientific content for a general audience.
-
You use AI tools as a daily co-pilot.
Requirements
-
You think like a marketer and a customer advocate, and you’re curious about why people stay or leave.
-
You love building from scratch and want to see your work directly move revenue and retention.
-
You like being hands-on, from writing the copy to launching the campaign to analyzing the result.
-
You’re excited by the challenge of making DNA insights clear, personal, and useful to everyday people.
-
You’re comfortable with the ambiguity and pace of an early-stage company, and you see it as a chance to shape the function.
