[Hiring] Principal Counsel, Product & Commercial @Pax8

Role Description

Pax8 is hiring a Principal Counsel, Product & Commercial in the United States, with a preference for talent based in Denver or across the West Coast, to help shape the legal foundations behind our evolving technology, marketplace and product strategy.

This isn’t about stepping into a role where everything has already been built. It’s a chance to join Pax8 as we go somewhere we’ve never gone before: creating, launching and taking our very own technology products to market.

You’ll be right at the heart of that transformation. Working alongside Product, Engineering and commercial leaders, you’ll help turn ambitious ideas into products that can scale, shaping the legal thinking and guardrails from the very beginning rather than inheriting them afterwards.

For the right lawyer, that means something genuinely exciting: the opportunity to help write the legal playbook for an entirely new chapter of Pax8. You won’t simply advise on what already exists. You’ll help influence what comes next.

Qualifications

• Extensive legal experience, including meaningful in-house experience within a technology, platform or marketplace environment.
• Proven depth in sophisticated software, Software as a Service, technology, data, marketplace and enterprise transactions.
• Hands-on product counselling experience, working alongside Product and Engineering teams from concept through launch.
• Working knowledge across areas such as cloud services, intellectual property, open-source licensing, privacy, cybersecurity, consumer protection, payments and the evolving AI legal landscape.
• Curiosity about how technology actually works, with the confidence to engage in technical conversations and turn complexity into practical decisions.
• Sound commercial judgment and an ability to navigate interconnected legal, operational and business considerations.
• Experience creating scalable legal processes, playbooks, templates and technology-enabled workflows.
• Confidence using AI-powered legal tools responsibly, including knowing when automation adds value and when human judgment needs to take over.
• A Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active admission to at least one U.S. state bar, or eligibility for registered in-house counsel status in the applicable jurisdiction.
• Experience with multi-sided marketplaces, reseller or channel models, payments, financial technology or high-growth businesses would be particularly valuable.

• Shape product strategy from the start, partnering closely with Product and Engineering teams as ideas develop into market-ready technology.
• Connect the dots across complex issues, bringing together considerations spanning privacy, intellectual property, cybersecurity, data use, consumer protection and commercial strategy.
• Lead sophisticated technology transactions, creating practical routes through complex negotiations while balancing opportunity, pace and risk.
• Help build scalable Legal infrastructure, developing playbooks, templates, decision frameworks and self-service approaches that empower teams to move confidently.
• Transform how contracting gets done, partnering across the business to improve workflows, standardisation and intelligent automation.
• Use AI thoughtfully within Legal, identifying where technology can remove repetitive work while recognising where human judgment remains essential.
• Influence senior leaders, translating complex legal and technical questions into direct, commercially focused recommendations.
• Raise capability across the function, sharing expertise, mentoring colleagues and helping create legal practices built for Pax8’s next stage of growth.
